Monty Hall's Great Escapes

oohh, now this made me mad!

A guy from Bristol decides to give up urban living for a less hectic life as a beachcomber on the west coast of Scotland near Applecross.
So, him and his dog turn up at a ramshackled cottage and the locals help reroof it while he ponces around, then the locals dig over his garden for him and the locals fence off the land and then the locals help plant his garden and then the locals help him cook a thankyou feast for...yes you guess it...themselves.

oh, and they only seemed to film on those glorious sunny days that makes Scotland a joy.  Where are the days when his little cottage rocks with the gales, when the rain is driven through the cracks in his door?

Its nothing like real life.

I watched it and just enjoyed the scenery mostly as we went down to Applecross many years ago in the old Landy.
What an amazing place!

I remember the climb up the hill in the car at Applecross years ago (in one of dads old cars)... keep meaning to re-visit the place now though.

Monty Hall's Great Escapes

I agree with Pete - how to get others to do things for you, no doubt at great expense as I think it said he would be paying them.  All the shots of him cooking food on his gas stove outside were of eggs and bacon and convenience food - where was all the fish he would of course have been catching, or hadn't he thought of that living so near the sea?  I thought the prog would have been about him finding driftwood on the beach and mending his house with that, but by the looks of that beach there was not much at all to beachcomb!

The only really good thing about it was 'Rupes' his recently released rescue dog and the obvious delight he showed in running free and playing - apart from when he chased the chickens.

Re: Monty Hall's Great Escapes

I suspect having a camera man following him around helped.  Anything for a chance to be on tv.  And I don't think it'll be him paying for the labour and materials, it'll be production company.

I would have thought that being a marine biologist he'd have been out catching fish or finding shell fish to eat, rather than kicking a few limpits off the rocks to feed to an injured seagull.  Hugh FW would have eaten the gull!
