molewatchive joined this, at least i will have done when they send my password.
its quite interesting, there seems to have been a decline , and some of the possible culprits are spoken about, although there seems to have been an increase in my garden
anyway this site is a sort of survey for anyone wanting to take part.
http://molewatch.org.uk/
if you havent time, then just pm me with how many fresh mole hills there are, what type of land it is, what area they cover in comparison to a tennis court , or half acre , etc, is it a garden or farmland, do you live bordering a farm, and if you know is there any mole control carried out in your area. oh and a rough description of soil, ie peaty, loamy, clay, moss, etc oh and your postcode.
and ill put it in to molewatch. if your not sure about any of the details, thats fine, just what you know.

I had already recorded once but have now updated with new moly hills. We have gazillions in the horses fields as they are on a slope, nicely grazed down and sandy loam. The only interference they get is Monty Doberman trying to dig his way down to the mole, but something tells me that pouncing at the soil pile and then ripping at the turf with his jaws until they are clogged with soil and then coming to Mum to have them de-loamed is not going to put off Mr Mole very much!

There are heaps in the school playing field, but they are busy building houses on the field next to it - would that make a difference to their activities?

Moles are great! I've had one here building some rather impressive hills all over the garden these last few weeks.
I just go out and carefully scoop the soil up and put it on the veg garden..which I did today, only to see about an hour later another one had appeared!
The cats brought one in once, perfectly ok, so I picked it up to put it back outside...they are suprisingly heavy little things, and so soft!

Decline in moles???? Not here, either...
But that's the same with the alleged decline of sparrows: we had loads of them nesting in the shed...

Not much danger of me seeing a flatworm, at the first sign of any worm thre's usually a chicken ready to slurp it down!
