Making jewellery.Does anybody make jewellery?
While we were in John Lewis today, I saw they had some fantastic beads, etc and there is also an interesting bead shop round the corner, was thinking it might be fun to try, and we're planning to start making things this year for pressies. Does anybody know of any good books to set me on the right path.
We got a couple of home made gifts for Christmas and it was really nice and personal.

Sorry I haven't replied before now, but things have been a bit hectic.
Thanks Kimmie, that would be great to see what it entails and figure out what I need to get. It would also be good to talk to somebody who knows what they are doing.
If we get a day off, we might have a visit to Ger's shop, we were saying there don't seem to be any craft shops anymore, and John Lewis seem to be the only place to find things, but its really expensive.
Mike is keen on trying soap making and candle making- anybody tried this, and ideas of suppliers.

I make resin jewellery, self experimented but I could look out some online tutorials for you(there must be some!) if it's something you'd be interested in trying? It can be messy, time consuming and a bit stinky!
You're so right about John Lewis, it IS expensive. I'm finding it hard to source materials in Aberdeen (just moved here from Glasgow) so I'd advise just to shop online - ebay is surprisingly good for bits and bobs at good prices.
.....and on the soap making front, start off with ice cube trays before buying expensive moulds! Silicone is what you're looking for because they're flexible for de-moulding and heat resistant up to a fairly high temp - you can buy them anywhere now in all different shapes.
