Living willow structureDoes anyone know who might be able to build a (very large) living willow structure for me? We need a field shelter for the horses and I'd like one made from living willow.

Would they not just eat it?
I know mine used to like the leaves (and bark) of willow and other trees

me  but it would be best wait till early winter, late autumn

Yes they would eat it so I'd need to leave it a couple of years to establish before I let them use it.
Smooth hound - it would need to be pretty big. Are there any problems with that?

what sort of dimensions , and ideas have you got, what sort of shape, then ill do a bit of thinking

If you need some help (for some of it) i'd be happy to come along. It'd be grand to see a large structure created. Only had a go at small hedgings so far.
Think it's a marvellous idea to use shelter as food too. Very perma. Do you know of anyone else who's tried this...so you know how much they are likely to chomp on, and how mature the willow will need to be before you let them at 'em.

I have no idea how much they are likely to chomp on - I'm absolutely clueless I don't think it has been tried before. OH keeps referring to it as my "hippy knit your own field shelter"
I just thought it would be a nice idea and much less visually intrusive in the landscape than a wooden shelter and probably won't require planning permission. Every company that I've contacted (apart from one) has said they wouldn't do something that big. I have my fingers crossed for Smooth Hound coming up trumps.
You are all more than welcome to come and help build it.

its not a problem  i already have it worked out in my head, im just trying to source some of the materials needed that i havent got, i have a couple of people phoning me back about it, soon i hope.
