Life After People - Ch4 9pm 26th May | Quote: | Monday 26 May at 9pm on Channel 4
What would happen to planet Earth if the human race were to suddenly disappear forever? Would ecosystems thrive? What remnants of our industrialised world would survive? What would crumble fastest? From the ruins of ancient civilisations to present-day cities devastated by natural disasters, history gives us some clues to these questions.
Using feature film quality visual effects and top experts in the fields of engineering, botany, ecology, biology, geology, climatology and archeology, Life After People provides an amazing visual journey to a world where plants and animals develop free from human intervention |

It was interesting but I would probably argue with some of its conclusions.
The assumption was that people all died out without any affect to other animals, birds, insects, etc.
I would imagine if humans died out, it would be due to disease, war, etc, so the assumption that all died at the same time was a big step. It also took a view from a very middle class UK point of view. (Comparing Chernobyl's regeneration to what a life would be like without humans)
It also showed bears, lions, tigers roaming about. Do we think that any will exist by the time this happens? Would any remaining zoo animals develop the art of escape? What could have been a good programme had way too many conclusions which seemed to be way off the mark.
Far more interesting to read about the aftermath of Krakatoa- the recolonisation is well explained in EO wilsons book- the diversity of life. Fascinating- slowly recolonised by spiders floating on wee parachute threads, and insects on driftwood, then plants from floating and airborne sources, etc. Worth a read

I found it slow, dull and too full of presumptions. Some of them were fairly based, but just how many times did we need to see the tyre with flowers in? I think they drew it out far too long, and I got bored and went to bed instead.

Yeah, watched it tonight... typical US b*ll IMO.
They showed a scene 5 years afterwards and then in the next section showed the town near the nuclear plant that went up and it didn't look half as bad as that despite being 20+ years since everyone abandoned it.
