Kellands School sheep-breeding education | Quote: | A class of entrepreneurial children have spent their pocket money on setting up their own sheep-breeding business.
The primary five pupils at Kellands School at Inverurie inAberdeenshire eachinvested £2 in their company, Sheep School, and bought three ewes at auction.
The Cheviot sheep, which are due to lamb in the spring, are now being kept at a nearby farm and, to teach the nine-year-olds the discipline involved in running a business, they are responsible for all aspects of the company, including buying feed, paying for grazing fees, and looking after the animals. |

I think this is brilliant - by taking part in this they are learning lots about all different subjects. 10/10 to the person responsible for setting this up.

I agree, great idea! Just being a bit realistic (sorry, can't help it!) - do they learn how do deal with bankruptcy, too, as they inevitably must, in a business of that kind?
Should have added that I think it's a particularly good idea as a natural science project... To teach kids about the circle of the seasons, about "life" and reproduction, about genetics, about healthy diet - there are an awful lot of things they can learn by looking after sheep! It's just that as a business it's bound to disappoint them...
On the other hand, if it teaches them how hard it is for sheep producer to make a living, then that's good, too.
