i-plate cure for slow internet?Hi - just passing on a possible cure for a slow internet connection (apologies if old-hat). We are miles from the local exchange and our internet connection was getting slower and slower (down to less than 200kbps - good only for email really).
My ISP put it down to our physical connection and suggested trying "active adsl filters" or an i-plate. The i plate is really just a foolproof way of disconnecting one of the unused wires on your phone line - to reduce the amount of noise on the line and hence improve line speed.
Have to say I was very skeptical about this - but took a £10 punt on ebay and bought one. Was most surprised that line speed jumped to 470kbps instantly and has stayed like that since. Havent tried active adsl filters yet - but if line speed drops again I'll give them a go.
I think if you already have quite a sound line the iplate probably wont have much effect, but if you're a long way from the exchange and your line is old like ours- it could work for you.

That's interesting - thanks for passing that on. I've never heard of them before.
We're a long way from the exchange but the connection is ok (ish) for most of the time.
