yeah watching it on plus 1 after shameless

Horizon was good to cut a long story short

Probiotics good for elderly, people with low imune systems, or gastric related illness, not much us if healthy

organic or not

no evidance organic is better or worse as far as animal welfare both organic and intensive have good/bad points neither better or worse than others. 1 example was that there are 10% of organic(free ranging)piglets killed by the mother sitting on them than the indoor pigs using a ferrowing crate
not proven that pesticides are safe but equally no evidance they are not safe (150 licenced to use) no food tested to date has had a higher level than allowed  although no evidance that it would harm if at a higher level

no evidance that organic fruit or veg better than non organic using chemicals can provide a better yeild of crop as it can be adjusted to the need of the plants

the food standard agency says there is no differance between organic and non organic nutricionally or in flavor etc
but tests show many organic products are not as good as the non organic eg organic milk contains 15% vitamin A than the non organic (but do we need an extra 15% of vitamin A)

so scientifically and morally they belive that there was no advantage to buying organic the main thing was weather you have feeling about intensive farming of animals and thats more a free range issue than organic  (as seen befor organic does not always meen freerange)

Household cleaners (dettox) claim to kill this that and the other but there is no evidance that we need it to kill every thing it does ie it kills mrsa but 3 out of 4 people carry it in normal life, it said that the advert were  the claaims the loo seat was cleaner than your chopping board was withdrawn because they could not prove there claims and that there claims they kill everything they say they do is also unproven.

chlestorol lowering products

yes thay work but stop taking them and it will rise to what it was within a fourtnight, scientifically prescripion drugs work better as they can be given at different levels depending on how much you need to lower it and at £6 odd for a prescripion (if you pay for them) or 50p a day for a actimil drink or a fiver for a tub of marg that you need to eat a min of a oz a day to have any affect, this one seems to be on personal preferance

superfoods

no evidance thay are that super just because a pommegranet has 8 times more (somthing i forgot ) than another  cheeper fruit (again i forget) does not make it better 8 x higher does not make it 8 x better if the body only needs the lower fruits level of whatever it will elliminate the rest unused.

The over all jist of the story was if a product says "can" or "could" help lower, improve, cure etc it might help if it says it "proven" to do something then its been tested and proven scentifically

Have a look at the website

Argh!

There is plenty of evidence that organic has definite advantages - it always depends on how you choose your science that you quote... The FSA has always been very anti-organic.

They'd rather people eat rocks? Doesn't seem right, somehow.

"So, Al, do you buy organic vegetables, then?"

"Yes. By their very nature, all vegetables are organic. I find those carrots that are made out of coal don't taste that good."

Gutted I missed that programme, sounds like it was quite interesting.

Me too, sounds like it was quite good. We were buszy catching up on a lot of stuff that we'd taped over last week so missed anything that was actually on last night (apart from shameless )

It's the "science that you quote" bit that amuses me. Kinda makes me think of the hardline spiritualists and Christians that Derren Brown and Richard Dawkins enjoy ripping to bits with real, actual, provable science.

Depends though, I know that I've watched some programs on the telly where I knew a lot more about the subject than the reporter, etc and a lot of what they were spouting was sh***.

Problem with watching some of these programs is that if you don't know anything about the subject you tend to take their point of view as fact.

watch it again on the bbc i player untill next tuesday

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/

you will have to download the i player to watch it but you can watch any bbc programme or listern to any bbc radio show for a week or download and watch within a month,

the biggest down fall with the programme is i would of liked it to be in more detail they dealt with about 6 differant topics in a 50 min show would of liked 50 mins just on the organic non organic bit
