Help with log in problems pleaseThrawnquine is having problems logging onto the forum - this is the message she sent me. Can anyone suggest anything that might help bring our TQ back into Neeps All I could think of was clearing out cookies.
| Quote: | | I've been having problems trying to log-in to NEEPS this morning and again just now. I get the Index page and I see a few others have managed to post today but when I click on the latest post it again goes to something about being unable to find NEEPS because Gateway something can't find it. You can see at a glance at how much at ease I am with computers! I normally have no trouble logging on. Have you any suggestions? I'm doing the same thing I usually do, but without result. |

Ive had the same problem all day today..
Gateweay Timeout is the message it is displaying, its like the pages are taking forever to load (more than 5 mins) and you get timed out before the page gets a change to load.

The only time I get these problems is if I am maxed out on multitasking (which takes a lot on this rig!)
Is anything else running at the same time? Is the system generally feeling slower than usual?
Hit ctrl+alt+del and bring up task manager, see if anything else is running that shouldn't be. Also check if the CPU usage seems to be running high.
If everything appears to be OK apart from this, then check other website loading times. IF they have the same problem then it could be the computer or the connection, if however, the other sites load in normal time then it may well be a temporary glitch with this forum. I've had a few similar problems reported about one of my forums before that I have not come across myself, but they generally fix themselves after a few days and may be something to do with the host companies programming.

Hi Honey! I'm back!I didn't do anything differently today, just logged in the way I normally do and I got on this time. I don't have Broadband so sometimes on weekends the computer is a bit sluggish and it certainly was yesterday, although I tried other favourite sites and got on them nae bother. Thanks to Wildgarlic and the others who came up with various suggestions (all polite, I might add!)

If the Internet was sluggish with you it may be due to response times i.e. the site waits only so long for a response and then gives up.
Fine for broadband, but can be a problem with Dial-up!
I do believe the timming can be changed on some sites.
Dial-up can still be a problem when the site is busy.
