Help - Poorly Silkie Cockerel

Does anyone know any Chicken friendly vets or similar experts who may help with our Silkie cockerel?

Oswald is about 2 years old and yesterday we noticed he found it hard to walk in a straight line.  Today he is reluctant to come out of his house, he looks bright enough but does not seem to be able to balance very well.  He can potter slowly along if he keeps his centre of gravity low, he looks like he can't/won't straighten his legs :-(  He did hop up into the nest box and back into the house as well.

Husband has checked him over and cannot see anything obviously wrong with him.  We put the feeder in front of him and he did peck his food.  He has stopped crowing and I am very worried about him.  Something in the back of my mind keeps telling me Mareks, but we have never witnessed this to know what it would look like.

Thanks
Sassinak

My thought on reading of the loss of balance was Mareks and if so, I'm afraid there is no cure.
Brain the vet in New Deer is quite good with poultry and is also a wildlife vet, so not just your usual dog and cat vet

Coud be ab ear infection. Silkies are prone to this.
Triumph

Well he is the same today, we will have to take him to the vets tomorrow morning.  I really hope it is just an ear infection but I am not holding out much hope.  Mind you it would be hard to tell as you can't see his ears.

Thanks for your replies.

Just a quick update.

Oswald is still with us, took him to the vets in New Deer yesterday and was expecting bad news.  But the vet thinks it may be an ear infection.  So he had a shot of antibiotics and we have to update the him on monday.

Thanks for you suggestions.
Townie

That's good news, hopefully you will see an improvement in him once the antibiotics kick in

I am pleased about that. Good luck with him. I hope it works out.
He is a very good vet in New Deer.
Townie

How is Oswald doing now, has he recovered?
Triumph

No Townie unfortunately Oswald didn't make it, we took him back to the vets last Tuesday and had him put to sleep.  He didn't show any improvement and it was unfair to keep him in that state

I was only thinking tonight just how much I miss him, for a little bird he made a lot of noise.

Thank you for asking.
beardies

Sorry to hear that.  It's funny how much you can miss them.  Take care x
Townie

Aww that's a shame   , sorry to hear he didnt improve with the medicine from the vet.
Sassinak

Oh so sorry. It is sad when you lose one
Triumph

Thanks everyone.
