Heated cheese wire thingy

need very briefly a heated cheesewire cutter (does that make sense?) for cutting polystrene sheets. Now I'm sure they're really easy to cobble together but how?

Mmm, I thought about that and couldn't find easy instructions - I think the fumes given off when you melt it are really bad for you, so you aren't supposed to do it any more
I used a carving knife in the end which did the job but was very messy - we had snow a few weeks early lol

I've seen folk use them for sculpture and set pieces, thing is it's for making cards, I need a neat edge.

I've just asked OH and he says you connect a length of wire (steel rather than copper if possible, Possibly earth wire out of 3 core cable) Connect to one terminal of a 12v battery Put a piece of tubing over the wire to make a handle and connect the other end to the other terminal. The wire should now get hot. The thinner the wire the hotter it will get.
At least that might give you a starting point.
It might work with a small 9volt battery - worth trying maybe

A Stanley knife with a nice new blade in it will do the job neatly.
