Guitar strings...I've just taken off the old strings from my acoustic guitar - any suggestions as to what to use them for?
Haven't restrung a guitar before... didn't realise what hard work it was... think my guitar needs some maintenance!! The last lot had little bobbles at the end to stop them falling through the bridge... this lot needed to be tied.

Normally it's not too bad, not see strings that didn't have some kind of end to them that stopped them coming thru'.
Not re-strung a guitar in ages though. Was planning on getting myself another one now as well, 'cos my electric one is going at the neck, although it's the body that's cracking.
Been paying my daughters wee acoustic one since she got it for xmas though
A proper tuner is only £12-20 though if you are struggling to tune it by ear.
To at least get the strings in the same key (even if it's off) then tune the top string to what you want, then the 5th fret of it should be the same sound as the next string down. Same for them all apart from on the fourth string down you need to tune the 5th string to the 4th fret.
At least that way they are all out of tune the same way IYKWIM

Thanks Iain.... I think the heads on the guitar are not that great either... they are almost impossible to turn and I've now got blisters on my thumb and forefinger... and that's before I've even started to play. Doh!

Probably not been touched in years though. You could try lubricating them with something.

Keep saving them then and when you have enough knit yourself a pair of fishnet tights

I bought a little keyring that acts as a tuner - £1 from ebay! Gets the guitar fairly close ( tho' Mark A, having heard my playing, might tell you otherwise)

I generally tune mine by ear. Had planned on getting a proper tuner though now that my daughter has a guitar as well (although I've managed over the last 15-20 years without one )
Ooops, meant to add, if you like paying the guitar but aren't that great at it, those Guitar Hero games are superb
