Growing Consumer Demand For 'Greener' Cleaning Products Sparks Industry Changes
ScienceDaily (Jan. 22, 2008) —

Amid growing consumer demand for more environmentally-friendly cleaning products, chemical suppliers are stepping-up their efforts to provide greener ingredients with the same effectiveness of conventional ones, according to an article in Chemical & Engineering News.

Hooray! Finally we're seeing the positive effects of consumer demand!

i was reading an article about making soaps such as  marine cleaning stuff and the like out of veg oil waste, that being the sludgy stuff that settles in the bottom of the tanks that is left after turning it into bio deisel,

also came across an article about adding quiter alot of it to concrete things such as paving bricks and blocks, and as well as being a free ingredient it actually prevents moss, and algae building up on the surfaces, and they are using it to make rock, artificial ones for landscaping, this really is the age of some amazing discoveries, and it makes me really happy to see that there are some people out there really working hard on these things.

That certainly sounds interesting! I like the idea of adding it to concrete too.

yes its good isnt it, ive got heaps of the gunky stuff from my veg oil/ bio deisel project, if you can call it that, and a wall to build , so i will be trying it my self, , heres one for people to try, 1 part portland cement, to 3 parts veg oil gunk , apparently makes bricks,    cement , i know it sounds odd but apparently its true, as i say i will be giving it a test later in the yr, apart from anything i cant think how else im going to get rid of all this gunk

David is still keen to learn more about biodiesel. Do you make much??

i dont actually make bio deisel , i just strain and settle old used veg oil. my van runs well on a 50 50 mix, more in the summer, i just have to bleed about 100ml of water out of the filter about once a fortnight, i will be looking into making it into bio deisel though as i intend on running my generator on it , there are alot of sites and alot of different methiods to produceing it, i am really keen on using the waste of the waste as well, i intend on building a purpose made shed as i dont have theinside space, and it really needs to be done inside in the dry, but im working on it

Those bricks sound like a good idea SH, do you think they might be waterproof too? It sounds to me as if they might make a good damp proof course - in an outbuilding perhaps?

that is a good idea, when i make some i am thinking of getting them tested for strength, i might make a few with different amounts of ingredients and see which one is the strongest, i have the offer to make some vibrated slabs out of a few mixes and get them tested also, problem is , is that i would have to go down to n wales to  do so, so its going to have to wait, i also have so many other things on the go that i dont want to take too much on until i have caught up on the other things im doing, or should i say trying to do
