Personally, I prefer the shotgun method - you know it is dead instantly and not just stunned. If you own a slaughterman's licence, it isn't illegal to slit an animals throat if it isn't already dead. We don't have such freedom, and quite rightly. If I take the sheep to the slaughterhouse for convenience I have to try not to think about this aspect of it. They probably are stunned properl, but you can never be certain.
I was actually planning to take the two wethers we have ready to Rhinds, but after seeing that, I feel as if we need to do the extra work and do it ourselves now. Mind you, it's probably less hassle than driving to Elgin and back two days in a row too. No petrol involved either.
