Get your tats out!

Smooth showed me Philby's which are impressive so thought we might have a section open to all for showing off our body art/rash mistakes   Here's my crescent and V rod (Pictish symbol for the uninitiated).

I have a lot of different personal reasons for my tatoos.

Among other stuff I have Taurus the Bull and Pegasus on my upper chest and various magikal (Yes the K was meant) symbols, runes and the likes.

I was born under the sign of the bull in the Chinese year of the bull hence my Avatar on Neeps.

In years gone by I studied and taught Yoga which exposed me to many of the Eastern belief systems, and I read and explored the ideas of the major world religions and a good few of the minor ones.

My own belief system is complex and incorporates many of the truths and teachings I have come accross in my life.

My first date with Sass was to a stone circle along with a group of pagan friends I used to hang out with in Aberdeen (they seemed to hold a lot of similar beliefs to my own). Sass was a little concerned about having to dance naked in the moonlight but no such luck

I have a fanatical hatred for fanatics (there's a contradiction in terms) but have mellowed a little since.

If you want a good principle to live by, you should read the Desiderata by Max Erhmann. It about the best I have encountered in my life.

Fascinating. My first proper tattoo was Pegasus on my upper left arm. The decision to become tattooed was a complex one - most of which was a desire to reclaim my body & make it different from the skin I was born with. Won't go into reasons. Most of my tattoos were motivated by psychological crisis, funnily enough. Having not had many of those in the last 12 years, I haven't had a new tat in a long time. I used to suffer from acute health anxiety (one of a long list of disorders i've had in the obsessive compulsive spectrum   ) and the one on my foot I got when I was convinced I was HIV+ and was going to be in a coffin by the time the year was out. Wanted to have an unusual corpse, I guess. My body art won't win any prizes but it's part of me & cherished.  My tats can be seen with a short sleeved T shirt & when i'm old I doubt if i'll be showing off my saggy old arms in T shirts so no worries!

I've posted Desiderata in a Wee Blether for any that want to read it, as we don't want to get too far off topic here

I used to have a printed copy on my wall for years. I wonder what happened to it.

I remember my mum sent me a card with this written in it many years ago when the kids were small.
I misread it the first time as;
'Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully suffering the things of youth', which I took to be the children of course

When my MIL was dying, she gave me the cross stitch she had on her kitchen wall for ages, which says

"God grant me the patience to endure my blessings"

and the picture is of a mother surrounded by her children.
