Frozen DieselLandie won't start and D supposed to be picking two other people up. Starts to turn over but then stops so think it's frozen diesel somewhere - any hints to help get it moving?

I'm thinking of getting a hairdryer for Rob too.. I think there's an additive you can put in to stop it freezeing again tonight, (if memory serves a drop of petrol might do ti too, but research that on the internet first).

David has nicked mine today! Just as well I can't go out isn't it LOL. I'll suggest that he stops at the garage on the way home to see whether they can recommend anything.

Hmmm - seems someone else up the road was having problems getting going this morning and D left MY hairdryer with them. They weren't home when he passed by this evening so I hope he doesn't need a rerun tomorrow.
He asked at the garage and they didn't have an additive - can anyone recommend a brand?

buy your deisel from shell, aparently the additive is in it, i bet you bought yours from the supermarket, it hasnt got the additives, hence you get a lower mpg, i think bp is ok as well,

In Russia where it gets REALLY cold (-30 ish) it's been known for them to sit with fires going under the trucks to stop them freezing.
***Don't try this at home though folks***

You'd only make that mistake once though I think

That might clear the roads in the immediate area

Funnily enough I was thinking along those lines (but less destructively) the other day... figured I could light a bit of a bonfire on the drive and keep shoving it towards the road and keep chucking more on it... would get shot of the snow/ice quick enough.
Guessing a proper flame thrower type thing would be a better, easier thing to manage though

Rob mentioned that he flicks the ignition on and off about 5 times to give the glow plugs a chance to heat up before trying to turn it over whilst it's this cold if that helps at all. plus the additive mentioned earlier.

5-10% paraffin added to the diesel can help and won't harm the engine
