free range Chicken

Can anyone tell me if there is a good place to get the above other than the super markets???
I just paid £5 for a f/r chook at the weekend and it wasn't till I was cooking it I realised that the farmer probably would see half of that, I could be wrong but I'd rather buy local

Just thought I'd pass on what I saw in Ellon T*sco tonight.

Where the free range chicken should be there was a sign saying that they were sorry, but due to the high demand for free range chicken since the channel 4 programme they couldn't keep up with demand and were sourcing more free range chicken as soon as they could (or words to that effect as I was slightly distracted by chatty customer )

i buy really good free range chickens from 'the farm shop' at foveran.  they are from a farm in banchory.
i found the lady there really helpful and she explained where everything in the shop came from and the was they produce the beef which they sell in the shop also.

If you are ever down my way, Carnoustie/Arbroath there is a good farm shop called Milton Haugh that has free range organic and locally produced chickens. They sell locally produced beef, pork and venison too, I think.  They  do the farmers markets in Montrose and Forfar too.

I killed one of our cockerels yesterday afternoon after it attacked our best layer. The meat's a lovely colour and I'm really looking forward to eating it.

But I'm not selling it, so that doesn't really help, does it?

Tilquihillie by Banchory are great, but I don't know if they get that far anorht, alhough they do some of the farmers markets. They also do wonderful porridge oats and muesli too.

Maryfield chooks are sadly no more.

Tilquhille puds still going strong though.

Oh no, really? That's where I get (got) my chicken from although I haven't for a couple of months.

Any reason why they have closed?
wildgarlic

That IS a shame :-(

Yes, falling demand, current economic crisis etc etc etc. They are assessing the Christmas market and may do the Turkeys etc then.

sottish producers - free range chicken

29 Jan message mentioned butcher in Stuartfield.

I'm lucky enough to live nearby. Butcher is Euan Morrice and he only sells free range. All his pork is rare breed and the pigs are raised 3 miles from the shop.
Cant recommend his meat too much.

In town in Aberdeen the butcher on Chattan Place has free range chicken, says they are from Coupar Angus so a wee bit away.  Maryfield used to supply them.

free range chickens

just to let people know that Euan Morrice (stuartfield butcher) is planning on selling free range chickens soon from the same palce that supplies the free range pork (just round the corner from us)

I can let people know more details once we've had one (prices, quality, availability etc)
