had a quick "skim" and came across use of the phrase "complementary" medicine (as opposed to "alternative")........ :?
Being a bit of a pedant, for many it isn't in any way "complementary" to the drugs/surgery offered by the conventional medical establishment - it is a true alternative - in my case I try to never use such savage and backward treatments, hence if I chopped my leg off with a chain saw, and I resorted to the local A&E, THAT would be complementary to my usual therapies......... 
This dreadful assumption that "ours is the only way" really gets my goat......
