interesting that someone in government finally realises there is problem. Its often said that Britain cant produce enough of its own food.
Im pretty sure we can but that diets would have change dramatically. Just like energy use, the solution is not to increase supply but reduce demand (ie reduce demand for high water and high energy foods like meat) and no Im not a vegetarian but we each too much meat in this country.

I think you're right James, because protein is for body building and repair. Once we stop growing we really only need it for maintenance and don't need the same quantities as our growing kids do.
I like meat and value it as part of my diet but would miss the veg and fruit a whole lot more if they were in short supply.

Just had a discussion along these lines with my ex head of department at the institute. He reckons by the time government gets round to realising that there needs to be a bit of funding into research on food security, all the people who could do that kind of research will have disappeared. Or, like me, be forced to take on other jobs.

Good to see that at least they acknowledge the problem exists. Unfortunately, reaction time with official bodies is always far too slow.
