Fizzy waterThe water from my taps is coming through fizzy and spurting all over the place. We all had an impromptu shower this morning when trying to clean teeth!
This seems to happen a few times a year and generally sorts itself out after a day or two, but it isn't very nice while it's happening. Any idea what might cause this? I know that previously it happened when water water used higher than the house - we've got outbuildings up the hill and any time we used the outside tap there it would cause this problem but that hasn't been used for ages.
This morning I flushed the loo while David was in the shower and turned the tap to wash my hands, and put on the bath tap so that the cat could have a drink (yes - she won't drink from a bowl, likes the fresh tap water!) - could this have anything to do with the fizzy water? I know previously that when both showers have been in use at the same time we've also ended up with the air in the water.
I'll get D to check the pump when he gets home (or next door if I see them) - there is a huge concrete lid to the pump and there is no way I'm attempting to shift that!
Anyone got any suggestions?

By 'Fizzy Water' do you mean the water is like its carbonated, or that it seems to be spitting violently when you turn the taps on rather than one steady flow?

both! I fill the kettle and you can see that it looks cloudy because of the bubbles and then the taps will sputter violently, the tap and pipework shaking with the force.
It seems to have cleared now after I ran some water from every tap in the house and used the main shower.

sounds like the large gush of water from the amount of rain weve had has take air , probably quite refreshing

Sounds like air in the system to me, it should work itself out - which is why it usually does.
When Gordon has to do any work on the pipes and then prime the pump again we get lots of spitting and gushing accompanied by a few banging noises sometimes.
It might be that the well has got a bit low and your pump has sucked in some air. As soon as the water rose above the pipe inlet again it would have been fine but you would have air left in your system. For all you know, the neighbours may have left a tap running by mistake sometime in the last few days and accidentally emptied out the well.

That would make sense Julie - the water level in the well bit. It's happened like that a few times when we've had a prolonged dry spell or used quite a lot of water for whatever reason.
Thanks for all answers

Only saw that just now - my first reaction: bottle the fizzy stuff, sell it and make a lot of money.
