scrap paper shredded for animal bedding or used for 'doodle bits'

bought picnic tables
improved garden area - cleared area by school gate, laid weed supressant mulch and mulched with recycled glass chips
made bird houses

other things we were already doing:
recycling cans, plastic bags, glass jars and bottles; litter awareness; switching off lights, using the environment for lessons - burn surveys, beach walks, garden as 'outdoor classroom', looking at croft work, leaf printing, etc.; feeding the birds; maintaining tree area in garden; hatching eggs; visits from community members (spinning, knitting, caddy lambs, kids (goats), ducklings, etc); recycling charity shop clothes for dressing up, panto costumes, patchwork; junk modelling, recycling trade and domestic waste - cardboard tubing, cardboard sheets, boxes, newspapers, plastic bottles, etc.)

For anyone who's kids go to ecoschools check out this http://www.co-operative.coop/ourc...matechange/greenenergyforschools/
Quote:
100 schools around the UK are already benefiting from our Green Energy for Schools scheme, with free solar panel systems worth £20,000 fitted to their school.

We’re now committing another £1million to continue our support for installation of renewable technologies in schools, and your school could be next to benefit.

The scheme is match funded by the Government’s Low Carbon Buildings Programme and managed in partnership with Solarcentury – one of the most highly regarded renewable energy companies in the UK, with an excellent track record of installing solar panels on schools.

Between now and early November, we’re asking you, our members, to nominate schools you’d like to receive free solar panels as part of our scheme. If you’re a member of The Co-operative and wish to nominate a school, find out how you can apply now.
