eating junk food hereditory?http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6940852.stm
I think this a load of rubbish because I ate a great number of a certain sweet when pregnant and my children are not that interested in needing any kind of sweets now or ever before, of course if offered they will take them but they don't want them all the time. It more likely expectant mothers who dine on junk food when pregant are more likely to feed the child junk food when born and often know no better!
Also rats have tendancy to go for sweet things if offered do they not?

I agree with that - I think it's what you get fed by your parents that determines, at least to a large extent, how you feed yourself in later life.
Don't know about the rats. Never had any dealing with them, thank goodness! :?

When I was growing up we were fed rubbish - my brother still eats rubbish but he's still at home with my mum.... whereas we generally eat quite well.
| Quote: | | Those in the chow-only group consumed the least food, while those from healthy-eating mothers given junk food again were tempted to eat more. | - perhaps because the chow isn't very inspiring and they have a sweet tooth? Or even that they needed to eat more of the sweet stuff to get the nutrients that they needed??? Is it more easily digested because it's got not much else than sugar in it - meaning that you get hungrier quicker?

People have different "sweet tooths" depending on age as well.
I sued to eat a lot of crap (still do from time to time) but I don't eat anywhere near the amount of chocolate, etc that I used to when I was younger.
Far prefer to eat nuts (cashews, pistachios, peanuts, etc) than chocolate now.

Don't I know it - and it's worse than smoking: I found it easy to give up smoking - you just stop and that's it. Whereas you can't give up eating, and there'll always be something that'll set off the cravings again. Which is why I (and a lot of others) find it much easier to fast altogether for a week or more, than to eat perfectly healthily, i.e. less and only "good" foods for the same time!

You shouldn't fast.
Heard that about sugar on one of these 'eat healthy' fad shows

Fasting is actually a recognised medical treatment for all sorts of conditions - it's also quite natural, back from the times when we were in the early stages of agriculture, and regularly ran out of food towards spring. Lots of animals still do it, and it usually coincides with their most active reproductive season... I never felt fitter than after 4 weeks of fasting. Swam my best time over 1000m breast stroke!
But you are right, it's no good as a long term solution to obesity.

no because it puts your body in the starvation mode which means when you do eat it all goes to fat first. If you mean fasting whilst taking in fruit that's diferent
