Just beware of the authorities... heard about the poor b*gger who lost 4 of his children in a horrendous accident who has been done for the crime (unsure of exactly what he's been done for, other than "killing" 4 of his kids"). Anything other than a std car these days and you are a "murderer" it seems...
BTW... sorry to put a dampner on it... just p*ssed me off tonight hearing about it...

To be fair the guy in that incident had appararently had to stop at a 4x4 event a couple of weeks before when some major structural piece of the Landy snapped in two...........unless that part wasnt true? But agree that many home mechanics are alot more thorough and competent than some garages!
JoH and OHofJoH are vv Landy experienced and engineery competent so Landy is in good and safe hands.....scapel, swabs etc for lovely Landy!

Well new alternator, plugs and headlights done last night Next is taking the head off tomorrow for a root about as she's still a wee bit smoky. We've bought pretty much spares of everything as will always come in handy.
The Series III should arrive tomorrow too!!
Stoney - oooh what have you got?? (parts wise..)

200TDi service parts for a start (Henry's due a 6,000).
Wipers.
Front seat belts.
Mud flaps.
Heavy duty shock absorber turret securing rings (x2)
Shock absorber turrets (x2).
That lot, plus home brew, pigs and Christmas has cleaned my wallet out so Henry's having to wait for the next bits: driver's door, galvanised body cappings and a new radiator.
And he'll need new tyres around the middle of next year.
Sigh. Land Rovers are more expensive than women. At least they don't argue back!!!!

hi there fellow landy lovers,
have you tried paddock for spares ? i always get my spares from them, ridiculously cheap compared to anyone round here unfortunately landy ownership seems to involve buying spare parts . . . . . . frequently !

We really need to learn more about how to do stuff on our landy - it always gets sent to the lovely mechanic man Derek Smith when it needs something fixing.

Paddock aren't too bad (some of the parts they supply have been poor quality but service is excellent), but I also use:
LR Series
Rimmer Brothers
Famous Four (can be expensive)
DLS (Derbyshire based, sell on ebay)
I steer well clear of Craddock and Scorpion.
I do the 6,000-mile services myself, plus a lot of maintenance, replacement and repair. However, I always use a good mechanic for the bigger services and major, safety related jobs. I know my limits and I like to have a mechanic check the car over at least once a year.
Incidentally, my recommended, must-have upgrade for a Land Rover Defender? An uprated, alloy heater matrix. I put one in two winters ago, which means the windscreen demists in a couple of minutes and my legs are toasty warm—without long johns!

i can well believe some of paddocks parts are not so good quality as some bits do seem ridiculously cheap ( for example shock absorbers £8 each when i brought some last year ! ). i tend to do easy stuff and get a local mechanic to do the rest. i swear by my haynes manual.

Terrier: Mmm yes, we have used Paddock since our friend at Rhynie gave up - never had any problems and yes, quite cheap especially as we do everything ourselves except physically MOT the buggers.
What have you got Terrier?
Stoney: The heater in my 90 works and works well. Must admit though I was prepared to replace as am used to Series III (truck cab - RIP) ...jesus that was cold lol!!
But talking of yours - iirc and have got your model right, there was one for breaking on UKLandy forum last week in Fife. £50.. would have got you doors etc at least (though getting it up here might have been an issue)

hi joh,
i'm afraid to say its a rusty old 300tdi discovery . i know a lot of people dont think they,re proper landrovers as too often they're seen doing the school run, but i,ve had mine 4 years and it has worked very hard and been thoroughly abused and i,m quite impressed with it. i have had a range rover and assorted series landrovers in the past though ( including a v8 series 2a offroader ).

We've had a Disco TD5 and a Disco 300TDi, but while they were just as capable as the Defender (and more comfortable) they couldn't carry as much as a 110 SW and were more difficult to maintain/repair.
I like the 110 CSW 200TDi we have now, and the 110 Hardtop 200TDi we had before, but I'd really like a 130 Dual Cab Pickup 300TDi. (With a galvanised chassis and new doors!)

mmm . . . yep a 130 would tick an awful lot of boxes.

Don't be afraid to say that. Nowt wrong with Disco's! (except the new ones..) We have a Disco too (SI 3.5 V8) which is getting Dakar'd well, or maybe having the body of one of the III's on it - we can't decide its fate. All we know is we won't get rid of it as its the one that bought us together
(and a 1996 RR Vogue SE. And two series III's. And my 90)
I just found this... OH's 1969 2a V8

terrier

blimey joH, you have a SERIOUS landrover affliction ! ! .
love the picture of your OH's 2a . . . . brings back happy memories
i could certainly be tempted to put a series 3 pickup body on my disco when the current one rots off.
