So - what was "the truth"?
wildgarlic

The truth was that we already know why prices are going up and that by buying the cheapest (with no mention of animal welfare/conditions) we can cut our food bills - oh, and that we throw out a heap of very usable stuff every week.

I was quite disappointed in it ... nothing I didnt already know.

But I guess it would have been an eye opener for those who don't watch what they are buying.

I have to say I got a little shock watching this programme last night.
I struggled with the rubbish people buy in supermarkets and feed their kids on it and how much they throw away!!!!!!  I used to be pretty niaive at shopping and waste but have always had to shop on a tight budget and I can't do most of the processed food.
But we had friends here at the weekend who reminded me why I moved here.....they have to shop in supermarkets as the green grocers, butchers etc have all closed and at present don't have access to local farm shops..........

I have come very complacent about how lucky I am to have a fabulous choice of well priced, proper food.

And its a shame people cant enjoy seeing what you can make from what you have - its all part of the fun.........

I bought a one pint glass bottle of Sarsons vinegar in Tesco the other day - glass bottles were 78p per litre, a plastic bottle of 2 litres was £1.19 per litre.  You would of course think that the larger quantity would be cheaper, but I have noticed lots that it is actually cheaper to buy two small quantities than one big one.  These big supermarkets bank on us thinking this and this way they con us into paying more for stuff.  It often happens with things like olive oil.  And toothpaste.  They think they are cleverer than us ........!

I have noticed that, actually. Pesto's the same. And teabags. I've noticed that when there's any disparity like that, they change the units on the price tags from, say, pence per kg to pence per 100g...
