coiled basketsI'm doing a coiled basketry course this weekend. Here's one finished made from grass and one a work in progress being made from montbretia and driftwood.

oooh very nice! Where are you doing this?

It was in Bixter Hall. Amazing what you can make from stuff that would otherwise have found its way to the compost heap! Today I made a basket using willow and montbretia with larch decoration, montbretia rope, learnt how to split willow and made a basket from long lawn grass.

Wonderful - recycled, useful, and pretty too. I really like them. How long did they take-ish?

They're lovely Jaydee and much more interesting than bog standard wicker.
You will have lots of fun finding novel materials to work with now.
Do you find that you unconsciously keep one eye open for stuff to work with and see all these things differently?
I find that whenever I see a long haired animal (or human) I think about spinning their hair and look for good crimp

The dog I saw yesterday was fit for being spun - or it's fur anyway! lol! I definitely look around with different eyes - stopped at the side of the road for montbretia the other day and we went beach combing yesterday for rope and bits to make some 'rubbish' baskets with.
I remade the driftwood basket today using the rope I made from montbretia. The rope took about and hour and a half - loads more than I used today, the basket took a couple of hours. What do you think?

Absolutely brilliant - love them lots. Do you sell them? (not that I want to buy one because I can't afford it at the moment but just curious)

Not yet WG, but we have been asked to produce one for exhibition and sale at the Arts Trust gallery to promote the courses and help get further funding.

They are wonderful!!! I'm inspired to have a go although I don't think mine will come close to your work - as Townie said you are very talented. Wishing you much luck with the funding
