Climate change goal 'unreachable'

The climate change goal of stabilising greenhouse gas emissions is unreachable, say two leading scientists.

Theoretically, the goals are achievable. Practically, no politician will want to be brave enough to make the necessary decisions... And of course, all politicians would have to that brave. Let's keep on dreaming!

Cool. Well if we're screwed, let's do it properly and sack all this Kyoto nonsense, aye?

Kyoto is old hat, mate...

Martin

government is faced with two choices - make the necessary changes, and fast (which would take courage!) - as they have none, they've opted for option 2 - do buggerall, and drive us straight into the buffers full tilt!

I would have thought that if the aim was to release as little carbon into the environment, then that goal is acheivable, i would still recommend the end of oil by paul roberts, then you will see that these reports are actually insignificant, basically the average person needs to release less than 1 ton of carbon per yr, taking into concideration that the average brit is responsible for about 2 t at present and the yanks 4/5 tons, so for those that heat every room in there house on the off chance they might choose to go into some of thiose rooms only once a day or less, and those that drive cars that are bigger than what is required for the job entailed, those that throw food away, and those that think it is their right to expect a holiday abroad twice a yr , and even believe that it is to the advantage to the world that they should be able to,  well you no whats required,
its a difficult thing to measure but i believe possible, to measure your carbon foot print and its over a t then you need tolook at it. you could just give in and sayf  k it but realistically , and whether you believe it or not , the planet will have built too much carbon dioxide and the plnet will then make the changes required, but those changes wont be too our advantage , so it would be better for our species to start reversing the damage, so that in 100 yrs time it may be back to its correct quantities.
And if anyone is going to say that climate change , and the oil peak etc is not real but some political scam, then dont bother saying it, because in advance i will answer them, and say get your head out of the sand and start taking some respomnsibility for you, your  grandchildren and think also of those poor buggers who are being f  ked up alot faster than us and never  even got the chance to release any where near their share of carbon, and thank to us probaby never will do. never mind having the chance to burn less

I know what you mean... I suppose it does the environment movement good to have a celebrity on their side - but a few things, like his airtravel, scheduled or not, are slightly ambiguous!

Another interesting one on Al Gore (I'd not really been aware of his involvement with Kyoto):
