Forget-me-Not

Chook HelpOne of my ex bats who looks fine all over, hasn't lost weight and I'm pretty sure layed an egg today;seems to have gone down hill. She's spent the afternoon sitting in the shade, a few hours. They have loads of fresh water through out the days, areas of shelter and shade, enough food and she's not low ranking and I've not seen any hen pecking. She's very docile and her breathing is rattling. Her wings seem to be hanging a bit lower and she's holding her tail lower. She started to dose off in my arms
They're on layers pellets with grit, they have poultry spice and they have greenery, fruit, cooked pasta and a bit of bread on top.
Any advice please? I think she may be dead in the morning. All the others look fab.

Unfortunately the symptoms for most poultry deseases are very similar.
As has previously been mentioned, check the condition of her poos - look at her bum and see if it's clean. Feel her crop (the lump just below the base of her neck where it joins the body) Any sign of snot? Are her eyes clear and clean?
Does she stand and walk normally when you bully her into doing it?

Chook HelpShe's stillalive and went outside amongest the others this morning. I didn't pick her up because I hoped she'd go off and eat and she did.
Her eyes, nostrils are clear, no mucky bum. Not seen her poo but no abnormal poo about the place. I didn't particularly feel her crop but I was stroking her there and she didn't feel different. I'll keep an eye on her and pick her up if she's looking poorly after school start.
Maybe was the sun, was hot and she was in the shade. Others were in the shade a bit and then lying in their dust baths.
Thanks for queries, will keep you posted either way.

It may even just be the production of an egg was a bit wearing for her.
I had a hen with a prolaspe and was egg bound recently. I cleared the egg and fixed the prolaspe and she was off color for a few day, not eating and hunched up. But she is fine now, just not a layer any more.

Chook HelpUnfortunately she's died. I came home at lunch time and found her recently dead in the hen house. I can't see or feel anything wrong or abnormal at all and she's in condition, shiney feathers, no loss of weight etc. The only symptoms were the docile, standing in the shade and wheezey breathing.
The rest look great but will keep an eye out.

I'm sorry.
unfortunately that's the thing with chickens. I've nursed several of them and only managed to get one to survive. Sour Crop, infected foot, ear infection......

Chook HelpThanks for the advice and nice words. I knew it would happen one day but it was my first natural death. (One was put down by us months ago, not pretty, wasn't as quick as supposed to be.)
As David said, (from Edinbugh airport outbound) Winnie had a fab last year, loads of space and friends and scratching.
