We've got a variety of fungi growing here this year again - did take some photos, too... So far I've only identified the puff balls (not giant, though) as edible. Definitely no chanterelle, and the only one that looked like a cep was well past it.

We got some chanterelles the other day too - I only took a very small quantity though. It's definitely been a good year for the fungi, if not for the roses!

I got a couple of ink caps too.
As well as brambles and rowans.
Made some rowan relish in the slow cooker.

As far as I know, you can eat them as long as you avoid alcohol! According to one of my books, even the smallest amount of alc in the next couple of days after you've eaten them can make them toxic.

Hi there
Ink caps are very tasty - but you must eat them fresh - if you leave them for a bit they turn into a sticky mess on the kitchen table...
Also- pick ink caps when they are young - when the cap is still quite closed - if you pick ones that have opened out, when you cook them they form an unpleasant looking sticky mass in the pan.
Do get yourself a small field guide to take with you when you're picking. Most have quite good piccies of the fungi & can help you identify the obvious baddies. We always avoid anything with white gills.
Happy foraging

becareful when looking for inkcaps...(as with most fungi to be honest)it has a relative that is poisonous when consumed with booze!
