Channel 4 to be censured over controversial climate filmChannel 4 misrepresented some of the world's leading climate scientists in a controversial documentary that claimed global warming was a conspiracy and a fraud, the UK's media regulator will rule next week.
In a long-awaited judgment following a 15-month inquiry, Ofcom is expected to censure the network over its treatment of some scientists in the programme, The Great Global Warming Swindle, which sparked outcry from environmentalists.

dunno about censure, Durkin ought to be shot.........
on second thoughts, disembowelled slowly, with a rusty knife!
It was without a doubt the most scurrilous bit of faux-journalism in the history of TV - unfortunately, great swathes of thickets watched the rubbish, and were dozy enough to believe it! :?
He lied, he misrepresented good science, and worst of all, gave credence to that utter scoundrel Fred Singer who is one of the leading lights in trying to discredit the science of global warming - surprise surprise, he's funded by Exxon, and the American far right*.........
*the REAL barking-mad far right nutters!

This is going to be controversial but...
I actually welcomed the chance to see the other side of the argument. It seems that in current times, no one gets the chance to express doubt or concern over the issue of climate change and questioning it being a natural phenomenon or human kind acceleration.
I remember speaking to a geologist 8 years ago who was studying in Antarctica and declared that climate change was natural and unavoidable and that humans should not be so conceited to think that they can do anything to change that. I remember being shocked that he would say such a 'lie'. Now I am not so sure...
Yes, save oil as it is a finite resource and we are a wasteful world, but I would like to have more information on climate change which does not come from governments (who stand to make a huge amount of revenue from 'green tax'- I don't see that being invested into alternative energies) or media who can see lots of papers with doom and gloom stories.
Right, stone me now for being blasphemous.....

nahhhh - you're allowed to be misled!
Sadly, it IS true - it's also true that governments (especially ours) have done bog all about it, except make a lot of noise, falsely claim nuclear power to be green, flog our futures to Atom Corp plc, and GM biotech corp - trouser the backhanders from them, and continue with the "full tilt into the buffers" plan
It's not JUST climate change, we're poisoning the whole planet, seas and all..............
The biggest problem of all is overpopulation, and continued growth - solve that problem, there may be hope for the world..........otherwise, as they used to say in the 60's when nuclear armageddon was looking close - "put your head between your legs, and kiss your a*se goodbye" :?

the over population bit is the worrying bit, war and starvation,
but with no planning cooperation, no fixed realistic goal for the good of the planet and its sustainability, instead of the purse strings of multi nationals, then thats the reality.

Just reading another eye- opening book (there are so many out there now, it's difficult to know where to start!)
Paul Roberts: The End of Food.
All the usual problems, but with special emphasis on what it does to the prospect of us (and everybody else) still having something to eat in a few years' time. And lots about how we got to where we are now, in farming/food production/eating....

one of the big problems is our inability to grasp the consequences of simple arithmetic - this is a link to an hour-long lecture by a retired, and incredibly bright and watchable professor - it REALLY puts things like "growth" into perspective -
http://globalpublicmedia.com/lectures/461
or in 8 "chunks" - starting here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-QA2rkpBSY 8)
I watched the first part of the ytoutube version, my jaw dropped, and I watched the lot in one sitting - gripping, and unputdownable! He's the "brilliant teacher" that there weren't enough of at school!
The other excellent book to read is George Monbiot's "Heat", in which he devotes a chapter to very succesfully blowing Singer and co completely out of the water!
Link to George's comments on Durkin's bilgewater

Yep, I can recommend that, too... I like it so much that I keep lending it to everybody, and have already given 4 of them away as presents!
