sorry  but you ask whether your getting a reasonably priced job, im presuming your getting your traction thing fixed, and youve been given a price, if that is correct  how much is it, they have quoted you, and what needs doing

no it broke today whilst moving it and I need to ring up tomorrow...currently hitched as I can't park it where it needs to go. So Was wondering if any one might have an clue to costs as tomorrow if the cost is too high I have to sell it and get peanuts for a lovely caravan.

You learn something new every day on Neeps
We've caravanned for years and I've never seen one of these. I shall have to read up and see how they work !!

they can be useful for people with problems , either age or health that sort of thing

Yes I know how much they would cost to replace, bigfoots and the like do not have the same manoeuvrability and would not do for my situation.
I can not afford to replace it. I can not move the caravan without one to park it up...it's 2 ton of vehicle and I am disabled.

Had never heard of these kind of things either. Have only ever seen people manouver them either by hand or still attached to the car.
I guess the cost to repair would depend on what all it needs, in some cases replacing can be cheaper than repairing them (unfortunately).

I went past the little caravan site (5 pitches) near us riding Liesel pony and one of these started moving the caravan. Liesel pony nearly wet herself, couldnt work out how the caravan was moving by itself and where it was going next

Bit like this one was it?

spoke to a mobile repairer today and he says it's probably the motor..around £200

concidering the price of a new one, i would think if that sorts it out it would be worth it. 2 tons is a lot, what type of caravan is it?

right guy has been out, and shifted the caravan onto my land...saves more complaints I don't need at present. He believes it's the 'pin' that's gone failing that the gears (which he will have to strip down and price up). But if the worst case is may be £200, may be bit more I can wash that with a bit of jiggery pokery and a following wind and credit card...would cost me that to change to tent, trailer and the like and that would cause me difficulties in the long run (anything thing for the children's happiness ).

Yeah, I'd love to drive it down the motorway close behind another car and then pull out and overtake just to see the look on everyone elses faces nearby

Been there, seen that...a woman, towing a caravan and all by herself with out a man sitting next to her to 'teach' her how
I over take the old codgers with my set up and you can see their jaws drop and they start to wobble in shock!

I meant in just the motorised caravan
Some of the newer trailers/caravans are fairly stable so assuming the tow vehicle is up to it you can get up a fair speed right enough... have heard some stories of guys coming back from Le Mans with kit cars on trailers behind them at some incredible speeds Not saying I wouldn't do the same in a sporty car but never with a trailer on the back as well... regardless of how stable it felt.
We've also overtaken "old codgers" when we've come back from collecting firewood with the trailer full of logs (still without being overly fast).

I know what you meant.
I get looked at in shock because the perception is 'the man' has to tow whilst the little woman does not. Ditto when I get to sites. The men stand there and when they see a' woman' get out they have to rush over and take over, not help just take over.
I don't speed with it...not worth the risk of going into a snake

I'd help if I was asked for it but I've seen plenty of women who're decent drivers and plenty of blokes who weren't
Also seen a lot of people of both sexes who can't reverse a car on it's own let alone a trailer/caravan

ah well I don't DO reversing with the caravan more than 5 or 6 foot, and then only slowly...I know my limits, hence the mover.
Asking or being offered help is always acceptable it's the crowd that don't ask and just assume you can't do it and take over completely, usually mucking things up, like tripping the mover out because it doesn't move as fast as they want.
Then there's the 'you don't wanna do it like, you wanna do like this' crowd..they would dictate to a man how to 'do things'....don't get me started on those!

I did a driving course one time where we needed to reverse a very long trailer thru' a set of cones and stop in a virtual garage as close to the back wall as possible, all in a van that had no rear view mirror so all had to be done via the side mirrors... I managed to get it within a couple of inches of the "wall"
Mind you, been used to having a trailer on ever since I was learning to drive up the wood with my dad

What you want to do is take the caravan somewhere NOW then... wait for one of the jobsworths to manhandle the caravan into position and claim they've just broken the mover... get them to pay for it... problem solved, plus they might never rush in to take over in future
