Car insuranceWell, I've done the deed and bought the car. Now I'm trying to find out how much it would cost me to get fully comprehensive insurance cover... Those b*** insurance websites seem to be unable to give me a quote - wasted half an hour now, filling in all my details on various sites, without result...
Does anybody have a rough idea how much it could cost - and any tips on what might be a good insurer to use? (Btw, I've bought my dream car - Polo Bluemotion - not quite new.)

Don't know what all ones you've tried, but generally to get a rough idea on insurance I've used the likes of Bell Direct or elephant.com to get prices from.
Have always used Bell if possible to actually insure the cars though, as I was insured with them when someone did a hit and run on my car years ago and they had it all sorted out so quickly and easily (which means a lot).

Cheers - will look into that! Time's running out now - I'm in the library.

We're just away out, but you could always pass your details onto someone else who doesn't have limited 'net access to do some checking up for you, who could then txt you the prices, etc if need be.

When you have more than 1 vehicle and/or more than one drive and want a group discount. We have 2 drivers and 3 cars.
Before you all gasp in horror....
we both work and share kids, so the efficient diesel is used for commuting (56MPG), the big family car is used for transporting all 6 of us (40MPG) and my Landrover Diesel turbo (engine maintained, about 25MPG) is used for the dirty work.

I checked out the multicar a few years ago when I was running the three motors. Turned out, the three policies I already had were far cheaper than the multicar policy. If I'd gone with Admiral I'd have been paying ~£300 MORE. Seemed odd, 'cos I could technically have insured a 4th car if I'd had one for that kind of money extra.
Might be okay if you happen to have the "right" three or more cars though?

A word of caution on the comparison sites. I arranged such insurance a while back and I thought my insurer was very 'prompt' in sending through the next year's renewal quote when I discovered the insurance that I had been paying for had only lasted for 10 months and not 12 as you would normally expect. They then tried to dip into my credit card to automatically take the next 10 month's payment without even asking me first.
I now avoid these sites and went back to the good old phone. Got the best deal and sensational service from NFU mutual at Westhill.

Yup... have found the same (in a way), in that I'd already had a quote from elephant.com, then decided that I'd use one of the comparison sites and the cheapest was £30-40 dearer... with elephant.com, so even the cheapest quote from these sites might still be cheaper if you go direct.
Also found when doing a quote for my STi using one of these sites, and despite me entering all the details and ensuring that they were quoting on an STi, when you went to the first few "cheap quotes" the car magically turned from an STi saloon, to a 1.5 wagon (which explained why they were so cheap).
