Can someone help please Free Range Chicken

I am a veggie, and am a Buddhist, however my partner and little lass we took in over Christmas are not. She was homeless when we took her in and had very few things to be happy about, but recently due to her hard work she got a full time job today! I am so proud of her! I asked her if she would like a "special" meal to celebrate. She said she hadn't had a sunday roast in a long while.

She an my partner want a roast chicken with all the trimmings. I agreed as long as the lady invovled in the supper has been "truly" free range and free from as much suffering as possible.

Can anyone please let me know if there are any shops in Aberdeenshire or Inverurie that have some for sale (uncooked). I would feel much better about serving her if I know she had a good life before coming home for dinner

Web links, phone numbers, addresses anything you can provide would be very appreciated.

Firstly... how lovely of you to open your home and your lives to a homeless person.

There are plenty of places where you can buy free range chickens in the shire - the one that springs to mind is Maryfield Chickens at Banchory.... but I'm betting that Donald Russell, the butcher in Inverurie might just have free range or, even better still, organic birds for sale. (edit to say that I've just looked at his website and the free range chicken that he has on his mail order site are from FRANCE!!)

You could try The Store at Foveran http://www.thestorecompany.co.uk/ - very helpful and lovely people there too.

Food for Thought in New Deer sometimes have them plus they are great to wander around as they have heaps of organic food/wine and locally grown produce.
kimmie

Zc wouldnt the butcher in stuartfield have them too...he only buys local...i havent been to him yet so not sure.

There is a place that MonkeyNuts told me about nearby her that sells chickens to have alive in your garden for eggs, but they also sell prepared chickens. They are all free range. It is called Black-something but if you PM her, I am sure she will be able to give you more details. That is fairly near Ellon-ish way.

Thank you so much

I knew about the larder but I wasn't sure if the chickens were free range or not. They didn't look like it when I saw the whole ones, I will check with them to make sure. I will keep all the others in mind too, you never know when you might need something special on the shopping list.

Thanks again so very much!

Just got this update from the larder....

"Miss McIntosh,

The chickens are Scotch but not free range, if you have any special requirements the best thing is to speak to the shop manager when you are in and she can help you with what you are looking for.

Thanks. Vickie"

I will check the other ones and contact the larder and see what they say.

No. They're not. Eggs can be Scotch. Whisky IS Scotch. Porage Oats are Scotch. Broth can be Scotch. Tape can be Scotch. Chickens can't be, so what the hell is it that she's actually selling?
kimmie

probably meant local to scotland and not bought in
Sassinak

A lot of people can't differentiate between Scotch and Scottish

And they should be shot for being so ignorant.
beardies

slightly extreme to shoot them    but misuse of "Scotch" is one of my pet hates also
zombiecazz

Really I think shooting is possibly the only way to go.
So on the TV when they ask for scotch, is it Bourbon, blended or Malt? and does it still apply if that so called "Scotch" was made in Japan?

Thanks again everyone very funny

Thank you again, the one near Ellon looks promising too bad they closed. Will try Inverurie saw this one earlier when I was having a look see myself. I ignored the "Scotch" comment by the young lady who answered my email because she is...um...how shall I put this???....E N G L I S H..sorry to anyone who is from Englandshire, I do love english folk really but often thier grasp of Scotch and Scottish leaves a person cringing.

Scotch Eggs...maybe that is what she meant? Or maybe the chickens are drinkers?? Wonder what kind of farm that might be? The directions to the place might read turn right at the distillery and the chickens are round da back.
Sassinak

My husband is Scottish, I am Scotch (Pickled in the stuff lol)

I'm English, and I have to say that the whole scotch/Scottish thing does my head in completely. I have corrected innumerable people, and explained the difference, and I also must point out that some of those people were Scottish.

Another one that annoys me is the difference between "may I" and "can I". "Haitch" drives me nuts (nstead of "aitch"), and .... oh, I could go on for hours here.
gardenbaby

Good for you purple dragon

See another very nice english person! There are lots out there trying to teach the other poor lost souls how to speak properly, spelling is another matter eh? You keep trying PD I will support you all the way.
DiddleDeDum

Scotch is stuff that's exported - so I guess you could get Scotch chicken, just like Scotch beef, Scotch lamb & Scotch whisky.

When my English friend and I go on holiday people often ask if we are English, she says yes, I say no, I'm Scottish - she says 'why do you always do that'  I say 'because I'm not English, I'm Scottish' she says 'what's the difference, I would just say yes if people asked if we were both Scottish!'  Ahh the National Identity thing again

I could never make my father understand the difference... Whenever he sent me letters (from Germany), they had "Scotland (England)" underneath the address.

Another thing I can't make folk "back home" understand is the difference between whisky and whiskey... No, we don't drink whiskey here - unless we buy some of the Irish stuff! (And the spellcheck doesn't like whisky at all, either! )

Free Raneg Chickens. The ladies at Food for Thought get aberdeenshire Free range chickens in on a Thursday and Ewan Morrice ( Butcher Stuartfield) is about to start stocking Free range Chicken. Aparrently lots of people have been asking him for it.
