Broadband Announcement from Scottish Office Please readI've just received a call from The Scottish Government asking about our broadband service.
| Quote: | The Scottish Government will take forward a programme of work to deliver an affordable, sustainable, broadband service to those households and businesses who are currently unable to access a Broadband service (Out of Reach), and who have notified us of their demand.
It is very important that everyone who wishes to be included in this project register their demand with the Government or the Enterprise Networks by 18 January 2008. |
You can register via the Broadband for Scotland Website or if you prefer to do it by phone you can call 0844 499 2722
Please do pass this information on to other people. The 18th January is not far away.
I did mention to the caller that our broadband service wasn't that great - yes, we have broadband but it's only half a meg and yet we pay the same price, and that we often have problems with it. It may be worth contacting them if you are in a similar situation because if we don't tell them... they won't know!
I'd be interested to hear whether you have broadband... and whether you are happy with it... so please do reply to this thread as well as visiting the broadband for Scotland site.

I think it is important to get the message across.
I hope you can copy and paste it into as many websites as you can.

we have broadband its lovely. I even watch pirated films over the internet.
We signed millions of petitions and sent emails and registered with sites and I don't think it did any good. BT upgraded the system when they wanted regardless of what the petitions says.
I couldn't live without it now. Although we did choose the most expensive package with BT on the assumption that they'd preferentially fix a bt broadband problem rather than a tiscali or virgin or who ever. I have heard some horror stories from others though.

funnily enough, I've found the opposite.......I'm way down in the south, and in a rural spot - for years I endured hell at the hands of BT (remember dialup? - I was getting a miserable 44k, then one day, it halved - they'd "daxed" me - whereby they gave half our line to someone else.)........ :?
I also had a fault that recurred every rainy day, and endured a procession of amiable but useless engineers - it was eventually cured 8 bally years after it started!!!!
I swore at that time the moment I was able I'd decamp to anyone BUT BT - I've used Tiscali for ages, they're not perfect, but overall I get a good 6mb connection (should be 8 ), and all my phone calls for a reasonable figure - best of all, their service with line faults is incredible.............couldn't fathom why - then the penny dropped! - if you or I call up, we'rejust one little person against the might of BT - but a company who is paying for their lines has lots of clout................

Interesting point there Martin.
I've got BT and we pay the highest tariff too - we only get half meg for that highest price!! I don't watch films, pirated or otherwise... most of my computer usage is music (Napster), Neeps and Selfsufficientish, and Flickr.
We are ALWAYS have problems with our BT broadband - at one stage we ended up getting a full refund for about 8 months worth of broadband that we only received approx 11k speed. It was when I visited my mum and used her dial up and realised that it was WAY QUICKER that I found a speed checker and realised the full extent of the problem. Yes, we got it fixed... but I tell you... it took calls to BT in INDIA, Scotland, UK generally... BT Chairman, Scottish Executive...and more to get a result.

I'm sure I have asked this before or someone else has
Do you have to stick with BT?
I found their service was total sh**e I can't say that can I
I found Tiscali is not that hot, but a long way better than BT ever was.
If only I could get the speed back when I was first connect I would be happy, dropped by two meg and they say that is the fastest the line will take. Well I should spit on them as I can see the exchange from here and I could very nearly spit on it
Better not, knowing my luck it would be my phone line I would spit on and have to wait for BT to come and fix it

The Scottish Government huh? there is a little known EU rule that is forcing this through, and Salmond and his henchmen have swung it round to make it appear they are doing some good. Fact is, they have until the 18th of January to comply with the ruling...so they are panicing a bit
Such is life
