beer festival 4th, 5th and 6th June

The CAMRA beer festival is at Pittodrie on Thursday eve , Friday eve and Saturday afternoon and evening. About 90 real ales on offer, a lot from Scotland.

£10 entry which includes £5 of beer vouchers and a festival glass. The beer is priced at or below pub prices.

I'll be serving behind the bar so come and say hello.

That sounds great but it's either a long sober drive or an expensive taxi home

We will have to organise our own Northern one lol

I went by last night and everything looked really good, even the change to cooler weather is good news since easier to keep the beer cool.

I've got my beer drinking clothes on.

I'll be there tonight.  I'm even dragging some family along.

It'll be ace.

So is that why you got married in the first place - to make sure you have a MIL in place for the beer festival?

well, for anyone going, here are my top tips and ones to avoid.

Yellowhammer - yeah OK
celt Bronze - quite nice
Nettlethrasher - quite nice
ginger pale ale - looses ginger taste - disappointing
old disreputable - very nice
lattitue - very drinkable
brude - disappointingly thin
lulach - disappointingly thin
lia fail - failure (do you see what I did there?)
sjolmet stout - good taste, but too watery for a stout.

but don't take my word for it.  Get down there and try it out.

I hope you only had a half of these and not a pint of each lol

i can definitely recommend all the Highland brewery beers (I had strategically placed myself at that bay!).
The darkmunro is superb, also the orkney blast and orkney best and orkney IPA (gues where the brewery is!). St magnus was a new one for me this year and my favourite from last year was scapa special which returned again.

The deeside brewery porter (talorcan) was excellent, lovely and smooth.

Its been very popular for a thursday night so I'd wouldn't leave it too late if you are thinking of coming.

well actually both Jessica and I used to do the beer festival but for obvious reasons it is only myself this year. Erik has already been proposed for the festival organiser for the 50th beer festival I think (we are currently on the 23rd grampian one!)

You are definitely planning ahead, aren't you!

You watch it - he'll be an awkward bugger and only drink wine, just to spite you...

yeah I know what you mean. as long as he is not into manufactured chemical lager then I'm ok!

The beer festival had run out of beer by 5pm on saturday despite getting extra deliveries from Deeside. Overall it was very sucessful (and very tiring for us volunteers) and to cap it all I was so busy on the front desk on saturday afternoon that all the beer was gone before I could get a final top up!

beer voting results

=4th: Bath Ales - Gem & Black Isle - Scotch Ale

3rd: Crouch Vale – Amarillo

2nd: (2007 winner and current Champion Speciality Beer of Scotland) Sulwath – Solway Mist

1st: (2005 winner) Highland Brewery - Scapa Special

so the local group will be off to Highland again (they won last year as well). Maybe I'll get a chance to go this time.
