Avon Skin-so-soft

Does anyone know an Avon representative near Inverurie.  I want some Avon Skin-so-soft for its midgie repellent properties and I you can't buy it in the shops.
wildgarlic

You can buy online if you can't find a local rep - www.avonshop.co.uk
Ina

Thanks, WG - I'd always wanted to know that, too!

But I do think this is in the wrong forum, somehow...
wildgarlic

oops - well spotted Ina!
kimmie

you could always add a few drops of lemon balm oil or Very small amout of t tree oil, to your regular moisture cream though......both oils do the same in repelling midges but t tree is also antiseptic
Ina

Believe me, I've tried all natural stuff - all citrus oils, tea tree etc - nothing works like Avon... (It stinks so bad that I don't like it - and the midges don't, either.)
Sassinak

Had a friend used to use crushed geranium leaves on his horses to keep the midges off them.
I don't know if they were the ordinary ones or the scented leaved ones though

You can also buy it on ebay!
Ina

Just went into their website - and find it's not so easy! Which product is it exactly? There are several that have the name skin-so-soft... Body oil?

It's on special offer, by the way...

It's this one Ina

Ina

Ah - thanks. Two for a fiver, not bad. I shall buy a supply for the next decade, I think...
Ina

Have just ordered several bottles - 3 different kinds, actually, as everybody seems to use something different - I'll have a few spares to sell at the next SUMA meet. Saves delivery cost that way.
Julie

Bog myrtle is supposed to be good for repelling midges.
Ina

Supposed to be. SO are all sorts of citrus smells and tea tree. Nothing works, at least not for me and lots of others!
baldowrie

have you tried Shoo!

http://www.shoo.org/ShooHome.html
Julie

They seem to like Gordon more than me for some reason - I do bathe, really - is it likely that your skin type may be a factor?
Sassinak

I am not really affected by midges.
They are irritating when they crawl all over yiou and sometimes I gat a few bites, but I am not eaten alive like some people and certainly don't come up in big lumps when I have been bitten - just a little red dot for an hour or two.
On the other hand wasp stings have a really bad effect on me including vomiting and extreme swelling.

Probably! I've tried everything, honestly... Fortunately the bites don't affect me - they are just a blimming nuisance. And I do occasionally scratch - often in my sleep - so that's the main danger. They seem to go under my jeans, too - how I don't know; worst is having them in my hair.
wildgarlic

This skin so soft stuff.... what does it smell like, and what other stuff does it contain (sls, parabens etc)?
baldowrie

don't know WG as it sets my asthma off and all my air passages clog up so I can't smell it
Ina

It smells horrible, and would certainly repel me if I were a midge! And I'm sure there's loads of nasties in it... But I'll bear it the few times a year that I need something effective.

Somebody said the gel works, too, and doesn't smell too bad, so I ordered some of that as well. She actually uses it for the horses... You are welcome to try it all out when I come up.

so.......Does it work Ina?? I have it, but where i live isn't really infested with midges etc!!
Ina

Come along here - ok, not too bad now, as it's been cold and raining since yesterday... But the day before some of my colleagues were eaten alive. And the didn't have the stuff with them.

It works for me, that's all I can say.
Diana

Ina, is that the oil or the dry stuff?

I have the body cream and the dry oil spray, but apparently it's the dry oil spray that does it!

Thanks for the offer of getting eaten alive Ina, but I'll give it a miss this time!!!
When i lived abroad, i was eaten alive with mozzies. Husband was never touched...not fair really!!

Ah, maybe that's my problem - the oil I have is decidedly wet and doesn't really work

Well, I was told it was something different - can't remember what it's called... And the gel is supposed to do the same trick; I used it a couple of times in the garden, and it was fine (but the midges weren't too bad those times).

I was in Craigdon off George St in Aberdeen the other day (it faces John Lewis) and they have Skin So Soft for sale there - so have found it!  Now just need to go camping and try it out.
Ina

Which type is it exactly that you have, Maidenstone - when I came to ordering it, I found there are dozens of different things all called Skin-so-soft!
Maidenstone

I think it must be the one that is best for repelling midgies as it is being sold in an outdoor shop.  It is in a pump-spray bottle, so easy for applying.  I was confused by the multitude of different products Avon sell under the Skin-so-soft range, so it was good to find one bottle sold for the purpose.
Ina

There are different pump spray bottles, too - so if you get the chance, it would be good to hear what the exact name is...
Maidenstone

Sorry - it is the Replenishing Dry Oil Body Spray in a light turquoise bottle 150ml.  Smells a bit old lady-ish but if it's OK for all those walking and climbing hunks, it's OK for me!  Craigdon charge £6.00 a bottle, so if it is cheaper from Avon online so much the better.
Ina

Cheers! Yeah, I hate the smell.. But obviously so do the midgies.
boxie quine

It is the Woodland one that is midgie repellent. My son uses it.
MJ

unfortunately doesn't work for shetland midge. Think we tried pretty much everything this summer, trying to take advantage of the summer evenings. even the poor cats were getting eaten alive this year.
lachlanandmarcus

I know lots of peeps do use it for their horses with sweet itch (which is allergy to the midgies/mites), so it must be good, bet they buy big bottles

Well, I'd like to report that i think it definitely works. We were in Cyprus on holiday in October and the only night i got bitten was the night i forgot to spray the stuff on before bed!!!
When i lived in Cyprus, my whole body was a mess from bites. The mozzies loved me, but this time... just 2 bites the whole trip - fantastic!!
wildgarlic

Where in Cyprus... wonder if you bumped into my farter in law!

IS he really that bad WG??!!

When we lived there, we were close to these arches just outside Larnaca.

When we were on holiday, we were nearer Ayia Napa.

Where does he live then?
wildgarlic

He's building a house at Vouni

Love the photo - must admit that the blue skies and the warmth would be nice right now.
lor138

I think there's a donkey sanctuary near Vouni, but I've never made it there!

The blue skies, sunshine and warmth was a great tonic i can tell you!
