Are you seated comfortably?

I thought I'd pass this useful information on to you all so that you can do your best to avoid unnecessary strain on your back/neck while using your computer - not wishing to preach but being in recovery from intense pain that has certainly been exacerbated by sitting in the wrong position at my keyboard I don't want anyone else to suffer unnecessarily.

Take a look here for some good advice.

Disclaimer - this is advice found on the internet and I'm not endorsing it personally (cos I wouldn't know where to start LOL)

Looking at it I can see that it's impossible for me to be able to fulfill all of the points. I use a laptop and without a seperate screen/keyboard it's impossible to get the screen at the right height, without the keyboard being too high as well.

So in the end I can quite often find I'm slouched, almost to the point of lying down in the chair IYKWIM

I've been asking for "proper" desk chairs for the last three years or so... We still use ordinary chairs. We were, however, given new desks, or rather "workstations", which we didn't want or need - I think they had some leftover at HQ and didn't want the bother to store them somewhere.

I actually made a point of asking for a proper high backed chair to sit at as I tended to find I would have a sore neck, etc when we were building the new office and yet by the time it actually was finished I got the same low backed chair as everyone else (doesn't come above my shoulders at all).

Easily fixed at work part of Health & Safety. Your employer should check your place of work every year to ensure that it is suitable to your requirements. If not put it in writing to human resources department saying it is causing you physical issues. They will then replace or supply what is needed. Only have yourselves to blame if you don't complain.
