Anyone fancy joining a northeast permaculture network meet?Maidenstone and i have been chatting (on another thread) about meeting up and having some marvellous permaculture chats?
Would you (or anyone you know, doesn't have to be part of neeps) fancy gathering every once in a while - perhaps do a 'round the houses' and show off any good designs in your home/garden/local area? Or we could set an 'outing' up, and find some good permaculture design to visit. I'd rather it be an 'active' meet up, where we can learn something by observation or getting involved. Perhaps it could be to help a network member with a project like a herb spiral, fodder hedging etc...i know a few neeps who are doing things like this who might like a few extra pair of permaculture hands.
What do you think - any idea's. Sort of thinking mid August for the first north-east permaculture network meeting. If anyone knows of anything similar - please let me know so we can either, join em, pester them for info, or ask them to join us

yeah great idea, i'd be really keen to see what others have done gardening wise since we are just starting out with the garden (i always get inspired seeing what others manage to grow in a polytunnel) and likewise some people might be interesting in seeing what we have done to make an ultra low energy house.

In principle - yes definately. The only drawback for me would be time and distance, but I guess I'd have to make that decision of a meet-by-meet basis.
Could a report be posted for those who couldn't go (with pics if pos)?

Please give me a couple of weeks so I can hack down the undergrowth!! Might take more than that. But I'd really value seeing what everyone else is doing.

PermacultureIt seems like several of us are aware that we haven't got fabulous permaculture projects under way or finished. Probably many of us are just starting to put things into practice or have started and things possibly don't look too promising (me).
It will be great to just say 'come and have a cuppa, have a look, give me some advice.' Maybe there is a permaculture expert somewhere in Neeps who can then help us to progress. Sometimes it can seem fabulous but daunting, hopefully this 'wee club,' will help us get on our feet.
From a general gardening perspective, it will be great too.

if people are willing to come here (4 miles south of Mintlaw) then we can discuss plans for outdoor pizza ovens as well! Also if anyone has experience with clay then they can advise on the suitability of the clay here for making bricks/ovens.

Sorry i've not been around much of late. Would love to take you up on the offer James. Would a date towards the end of the month be any good? If so.....
We neeps have a habit of getting carried away with chat when we gather....erm, maybe that's just me. Perhaps we could go for a max meeting time and a rough agenda?
Lastly - before we set a date, may i suggest (James) that you post the meet up date on the 'meet up details' section. Access to this section has been given to members who have been 'met' by other neeps, or are about to meet other neeps. Not sure if it's just me, but it makes me feel easier talking about where and when's.

sorry for late reply, Ive been i'll the last week.
We could offer either the Sunday 30th Aug or 5th/6th Sept at our house here. The location is between Ellon and Mintlaw so I appreciate not convenient for everyone.
The format would be discussion and tea/coffee. We can discuss energy conservation in buildings (plenty of examples here) and also discuss plans for a clay or brick wood fired oven. I'll dig up some clay samples and get copies made of the recent feature on brick ovens in the permaculture mag.
I'll do a new topic so its obvious.

And 30th is the Last of the Summer Dunes picnic at Balmedie - unless you go to James B's in the morning then to the picnic after lunch ...!
My sister dug local clay to make pots with once, she had to sieve out every tiny stone by using lots of water - a time-consuming business. But that was for pots fired at very high temp in a kiln, not used as part of an outdoor oven. It was so that the stones didn't explode and wreck the pots. I can find out how she did it if you like.

1st permaculture group meet is the Sunday 30th Aug (2pm). We are between Ellon and Mintlaw (pm for details). The format is
1) Tour of the house to demonstrate its energy saving features
2) Discussion on outdoor brick/clay ovens. I have some clay on site and I want to build one with bricks since we have the old bricks from the cottage fireplace. I'll photocopy the article in the recent permaculture mag on brick ovens.
3) Afternoon tea. Selection of food using locally sourced ingredients
4) more discussion!
Let me know if you intend coming.
thanks

Sorry James that I can't come. I'll be up to my eyes in sand dunes at the picnic, but hope you have a great afternoon and that everyone learns a lot. I shall think sadly of you all tucking into your afternoon tea!

Sorry to be a bit daft but what does pm mean, as in "see pm for details"?

At the bottom of everyones message there are some small boxes.
Profile, which is a link to their profile.
PM which is a link to send them a Private Message
www which is a link to their web page if they have one mentioned on their profile
msnm - Which is a link to their msn messaging account.
Hope this helps

Now I feel really silly!

The only silly question is the one that isn't asked !!!
We all have to learn
I spent a long time wondering what rofl meant (Roll on floor laughing, in case you didn't know) But was too embarrassed to show my ignorance by asking lol
Ask away - it's what we are here for. There will be things that you know more about. You will get your chance to shine !!

Looking forward to seeing you and J next weekend - can't wait to see the baby too.......is he big enough for me to get the baby bouncer out yet, it's soooo much fun.
|
JamesB

well he is 1 yr old today! bouncing is good and will try and climb anything.
one of the things we did since we had gordon and allan over is move a 60cm diameter pipe (leftover from the well) to the play area and he loves crawling through that

He might have outgrown that bouncer, I didn't realise it was that long since he was born. Where does the time go?
Got lots of baby toys here anyway, and a travel cot if he wants a nap.
