All things transition :-)Thought it might be an idea to start a space where we can chat about this. I think that a new section on 'transition' type stuff is wanted by some? The boards due to be updated at some point soon, but in the meantime, in the spirit of doing things 'now', I thought we could get started here. Pretty sure it can be separated out later if there's lots to say.
Interested? Please let us know by posting your 'stuff' here. Ideas, concerns, resources and links, indeed anything at all that lends itself specifically to transtion, low impact living, community strengthening and sustainability...I think you get the idea.
I'm interested but really haven't the foggiest idea how to convert my enthusiasm into action. It doesn't help that I'm fairly new to the area. I've started chatting to interested folk in my area, but so far that's about it. It's time i did more....mmm how??
Ok - over to you. I'll be back soon with links to info I've found on my nosey travels. For anyone who's not sure what I'm talking about have a mooch around here http://www.transitionscotland.org/

Not rummaged through my favorites yet to put here - but - just found this great site on my travels. http://www.communityland.org.uk/
Wondering why I didn't know it existed sooner - anyone seen this before? Have joined the forum there too in hope of finding more like minds but it's a tad quiet.

Community LandDon't think I've seen this, need a coffee to remember and a read. SOMEWHERE there's a thing where you can register your interest, I have but can't remember where it is and have not heard anything from them. Maybe it's this, who knows.
I think the main Transition site has a step by step thing, will go and have a look again.

More things transitionary -
Commonwealth orchards http://www.commonwealthorchard.com/ a wonderfully 'fruitful' project. There's a map emerging - our infant school is on it already I've not got permission yet, please cross your fingers for me!! Do you already have an orchard, or want to see one in your community?
The woodland trust has a grant available for community groups of £100 http://www.treeforall.org.uk/GetDigging/Events+grants.htm pretty sure I read that the remit for funding now includes apple and pear tree's, but I could be wrong
Also, anyone investigated common land in their area? www.scottishcommons.org/index.htm Could be put to community good

Have moved this thread here from 'wee blether' before it gets completely buried by new chat. I think it's a really important subject - and seeing as permaculture is valued so highly in transtion initiatives - thought it would fit here quite nicely.

CAT zero carbonone idea I like is from CAT, its their zero carbon journey.
The idea is that over the next 20 years you reduce your CO2 by 5% each year. Obviously the first years are easy.
based on this, I am trying to reduce my car mileage by 5% each year. since the car mileage is recorded every year at MOT then it seems quite easy to monitor
my idea is that as long as I keep within the yearly reduction then Im ok. so if I use the car a lot for holidays etc then I have to compensate by using the bus more for commuting and vice versa. I take the car on wet days and cycle on dry days (actually I cycle on most days from the BofD park and ride to foresterhil since its quicker).
last year I managed ok but can I keep it going? Years 5 to 15 will be the hardest. The last few years of the twenty should be easier since I'll be retired by then! One idea for making it in say 10 years is that I give up a city centre job and get a local job (with likely pay implications) and environmentally this would be a good thing.
I think the same principle can be aplied to most things. In terms of CO2 our low enery house will make the transistion easy in the first few years but we will have to do more in the future to keep up with the CO2 reduction.
