The programme was indeed Grand Designs, I happened to catch it a couple of nights ago.
Very interesting way of building I thought!

They did have solar panels on the roof smooth. that was what the raised section at the front was for and the reason they had such a large water tank. Interesting programme.

well in that case, no critisisms,     good building
lachlanandmarcus

interesting that part of the reason for doing it in france was the hassle they got in the uk as tyres classed as toxic waste so officials couldnt get their heads round the idea of building a house from them.....
Townie

I watched this the other evening too... it was good.

Loved the round wooden bed they had in the rotunda part of the building
Smooth Hound

and the round legs on it, i thought that was great
Townie

They looked fab didnt they
JamesB

did they mention how they stabilise the tyres to stop decay? otherwise tyres will disintergrate to a black gloop!

Dear All

I watched the programme and they said that it is much easier to build in France, something along the lines of one you've got planning permission it's upto you what you do and if it falls in on your head, well you've only yourself to blame. Not the exact words I ken, but you get the gist.  Although later on in the programme they said they got a professional in to do the electrics due to the complexity of French Regulations.  So maybe they are tighter on electrics over there than building, I dinna ken.

Dear All

Not entirely sure, but even under the best conditions for decay it takes centuries for tyres to turn into gloop.  Given that water and air have been pretty well totally excluded it'll probably last for ever.

Dear Kimmie

Understood, it's just the way I do things (on all forums/groups I've joined). I ken it's a bitty formal, but I've never been one to follow convention, unless it suites me of course.

One thing you do need to do is to uncheck the box that says disable BBCode in this post - that's why your quotes are not working properly. I've done it a couple of times for you this afternoon.

I think the Dear 'poster' bit is rather nice actually
Smooth Hound

i like it
kimmie

didnt say i didnt like it...just thought it was a bit formal as we are all friends...Rachet if you wish to carry on being formal you are more than welcome to....it does make me smile though
