A permaculture principles learning idea - wanna join in?

Can you give me your thoughts - and let me know if you'd be interested in this?

I've got the feeling many of us are already 'doing' permaculture, albeit under a different name, usually that name is 'common sense' or 'logic' or 'nifty thrify'. I wonder, would you like to share what you're doing, and learn from what others are doing?

Here's the plan. I post a permaculture principle, with bit of a definition and a couple of examples - and then we add our own practical examples. They can be your own or things you have observed working.

Great idea. Very inspirational for those of us, who want to do it and wondering where to start.

Ooops apols SH and others....should have added 'what you've done or observed' as well as 'what your doing'. As long as it's a practical example of something real, that works/worked well, we'll all benefit. I imagine you'll have a lot to share SH.   Don't be put off if your not doing much right now....for whatever reason!!

Great idea! I'm in.

Sounds good to me - a very good way to demystify permaculture

Sounds a good idea - we are probably all doing a few things but it doesn't hurt to learn more stuff.

Anyone have any ideas about what to do with large holes in our back lawn which were dug by our 7-month-old collie - have used one to sink a post for a bird table, but can't plant trees in the others as they would be in the shadow of the house.

 great stuff!

6 of us is plenty enough of a gathering to get started. Please, please join in and share if something strikes a chord. I've heard it true that a rolling stone gathers no moss.

Will now have a think about which principle would be good as a starter for us to share and learn. Please post piccies, notes, web links ect as we go along as they're sure to help us on the path to becoming perma guru's.

Ok - time I pulled my finger out and got us started.

Before I do, think I need to say that I'll be ruthlessly plagiarising (borrowing   ) bits and pieces from things I've read/heard as I've been learning about Permaculture. As I've got Patrick Whitefields, The Earth Care Manual and Graham Burnetts, Permaculture A Beginner's Guide to hand, much will come from there. You'll find an online version of Grahams Guide on the 'permaculture resources' thread. I'll add to the resources thread as we go along. If you find anything of interest please bob it on there

I imagine I'll be using things I've seen/heard from folks on the intro to permaculture course too.

I'm 'borrowing' the words and ideas in the name of sharing - so I think I'll be forgiven.
