Quaffle, our saxony drake has a problem, his willy has prolapsed.
I've spoken to the vet who has no real idea. The book I've read says it is a problem that can happen for various reasons, but treatment either involves leaving it to drop off, and just watching for infection or putting him inside on straw for 2-4 weeks until it retracts. Either way it is not usually serious, unless an infection sets in, and he was never for breeding, I just liked him at the sale last year.

Has anybody else had this problem, and what did you do.

Has anybody else had this problem with their drake, or with their own willy?!!!

Sorry - I couldn't resist that.

Hi Mike & Louise,

Last year one of my drakes had the same problem.  One of the other drakes got hold of his willie after he had his way with one of the other girlies!  I took him to the vets in Oldmeldrum and one of the vets there was brilliant.  They said that his willie and prolapsed and that he could operate on him - but he wouldn't be able to have baby ducks again - that wasn't important.  So after half an hour I got him back and he was on antibiotics for a few days - but he recovered very well.

Hope that helps.  If you need to know which vet it was that helped me I can pm you.  The bill was under £30 - which I thought was good for having gone through a little operation.

Alice.

Hi, thanks for that.
The name of your vet would be helpful, I spoke to our vets and they also think and op is the way to go, but I'm sure they would like to talk to somebody who has done it already. He is booked in on Tuesday for the op. I haven't done anything with him, not quite sure what I should do, any ointment just makes the earth stick to it even more, and I don't really want to seperate him from the girls as he is quite a stressy bird.
