I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to make yogurt
I just tried a small quantity to start off .. but it turned out very nicely .. I'll have to think of millions of things to make with it now
1/2 Litre of milk warmed to "blood" temperature
1 Tbs dried milk powder
1 Tbs Live natural yogurt
Mix in a bowl. cover with a plate or clingfilm and leave in a warm place overnight (about 10 hours) should be all lovely and thick in the morning .. chill it when it's thickened.
Just off to use my first batch in some Soda Bread (remembering to keep some left over for the next batch) _________________ www.clarindasreply.co.uk

| And if you don't have a warm place, use a wide thermos flask instead. (I make mine on top of the radiator in winter, and in the thermos in summer.) |

Yoghurt is something I've never thought about making before and going by your post looks relatively easy to do..
I might just give this a wee try out.. thanks for posting the recipe _________________ http://www.folksy.com/shops/Townie |

I've just bought a secondhand yogurt maker, which is, in effect, a plastic jar within another. I'm all for the idea of making yogurt from the Yeo Valley natural yogurt I currently have in the fridge, but something about leaving milk out overnight kind of makes me cringe a little bit. I suppose the good bacteria will keep any bad bacteria from forming, right? Please someone reassure me I'm not going to poison the kids!

You are right - the good bacteria yogs it and the milk doesn't go sour.
I found a good recipe today in a free mag: blend some soft fruit, stir in a little icing sugar to sweeten, and mix with yogurt, then freeze in lolly moulds. I'll have to dig out my lolly moulds, wherever they are. _________________ Local food - better by far! |

must give it a go as I've got some excess milk in the fridge at the moment.
D brought some interesting lolly moulds back from cyprus today and they are really good - you can buy them here too from Lakeland _________________ Neeps Flickr Group - check out some of the fab photos from other Neepsters and share some of your own. |

I love home made yoghurt, haven't made any in a while, but will start again.
Recently I've been having rhubarb yoghurt for lunch at work. I stewed a load of rhubarb with a little sugar and some water and then froze it in ice cube trays.
Before work I a fill a tub with natural yoghurt, pop in two frozen cubes of rhubarb.
when I get to lunch time the rhubarb is defrosted, but the yoghurt is still cold. mix with spoon and eat. Yummy. _________________

Ergh - two fails so far! There are so many 'methods'! Will try tiger6's way next and just heat the milk to blood temperatue. Or perhaps there is no live bacteria in Yeo Valley natural yogurt?? _________________ I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance. - Socrates |
