Why not boast/moan about the things that you've done in the kitchen today?

If you've done something that's worked well, then why not share the recipe in a different thread so that it makes it easier for everyone to find it... if you've done something that hasn't quite worked out then why not ask for hints/tips as to why it didn't work?

Thought I'd resurrect this old topic.

Today I had a busy baking day.
I made:
Amish White bread
Malted Oatmeal Loaf
Cornmeal loaf
Eggless Ginger upside down pudding
Pizza

The upsidedown pudding is a results of being miserly and not wanting to pay local shop prices for eggs and marg. So I made a pudding using, veg oil, sugar, treacle, yoghurt, flour, baking powder and pineapple.
Worked out great and just a little chewy on top which I think makes it better. We're having it with custard later.

The malted oatmeal loaf sounds interesting... have you got a recipe?

I made pitta breads, wholemeal loaf, cheese scones - rather tasty recipe from the cranks cookery book, and sesame thins (also from cranks) - oh and spicy chickpeas for supper.

Nope, can't share as I made it up as I went. Used a basic brown loaf recipe added a heaped tablespoon of malt and some oatflakes soaked in warm water.

Ah - German style plum cakes and dumplings? I'm looking forward to that - once I get a proper plum harvest!

My tree only had 13 plums on it - which is quite an amazing result, actually, as I haven't even planted it out in the ground yet - I only transferred it to a bigger container until I can make up my mind where to put it! I used some of them (and some bought plums) in a barley bake yesterday. And to fill up the oven I also made bread (rye/wheat sourdough with linseed), plus some roast veg for my tea.

Edited to say I also made lentil soup yesterday - enough for three days. Had a really productive day for once! Since the coming week is going to be very busy at work, it'll be good to have something in the fridge that just needs heating up.

Today I MUST make jam; have had the fruit sitting in the sugar for a week now... Four berry jam.

recipes? well, you make some kind of dough thingy in the breadmaker and then for the cakes you roll it out and place the halved plums all over the top and bake it.

For the dumplings, cut the plums nearly in half so that a bit of skin and flesh still connects the two bits, take out the stone, replace it with a sugar cube and close the plum again. Then flatten out a bit of dough in to a handsize shape, wrap the plum in the dough and roll around in your palms to seal it. When you have done as many as you want, boil some water and put the dumplings in the water for about 10 minutes. They'll sink when you first put them in, but after a minute or two bob up to the top. Its a bit trial and error but for our smaller plums 10 minutes in boiling water was fine.

That's sounds interesting - looking for ways to use some of my plums (Ina if you want some you know where they are!!!).

I wonder, what would it be like with a bit of spice and maybe a splash of brandy

What happened to our old recipes from the other forum? I'm sure I posted a recipe for this kind of tray bake on there once... Possibly in connection with rhubarb, but the principle is the same for plums, or apples.

In our family those dumplings were made without the plums inside, and traditionally served with blaeberries (bought in jars - never had enough). Haven't had that for ages...
