...has been diagnosed with Alzheimers... It was on the news this morning. Early stages yet, and he promises to write a few more books before it's too late! I've only read two of his so far, but I've ordered a few more; they seem to be difficult to find at charity shops. Maybe everybody who has them hangs on to them? |

yeah, we've got loads. I might be able to lend them to you.
Would you prefer German or English?
I find the local library a great source of books.

He is an amazing writer IMO, both him and Douglas Adams.
I found his books by accident TBH, was in the local library a good few years back and had read most of the stuff they had... noticed a cartoony cover of a book and had a look. Liked the sound of it and picked it up along with the other one that was there. Was hooked from there. IIRC there were only about 4 or 5 of the Discworld novels out there at the time. Have them *ALL* on paperback now, along with most of them on audiobook.
Hopefully it's not too rapid a decline, as selfishly I'm sure he has some more great DW novels in him yet
It's a very debilitating illness for someone who has a really sharp mind already. Was very shocked and sadenned to hear it... but as he says himself it's an enbuggerment and "he ain't dead yet" |

Was just reading more about this one another site I was on and some of the comments coming back are making me want to go and re-read all of the books again
As one of them said, it's lucky that it's a "one in a million chance" that they'll find a cure for it, one in a million chances happen 9 times out of 10 |

Thanks - but they are the type of book I want to OWN MYSELF, too! Even just the two I have - come to think of it, it's three, one illustrated one I bought on holiday (The Last Hero), I've read several times... And both play.com and amazon have delivered today - good grief, am I going to get any sleep tonight? |

Ina have you read the first two The Light Fantastic and The Colour of Magic IMO they are absolutely the best closely followed by Mort.
I once saw Guards Guards at HM theatre were the actor who played Avon in Blake 7 (Paul Darrow) played the part of captain Vimes. It was fantastic
Did anyone see Hogfather last christmas? I think they are repeating it.
I know from personal experience how horrible a disease it is (MIL has it). Early onset is particularly bad as t makes the deterioaration much quicker. _________________

Thanks for the link, Iain - I shall look into that after work, otherwise I'll never get anything done today! I hate it when they don't tell you (on Amazon etc) which order the books were published in. Ian Ranking has the number on each of his books of the Rebus series, which is great. _________________ Ina |
