If one were to, hypothetically, approach an employee of the local council who hypothetically worked at one of the big recycling depots where they have skips full of lovely interesting stuff and asked him/her whether you might have a [very careful] rummage about in the wood one...what do you think they would hypothetically say?
Are there horrible, punishable by death laws against such activities?
(ordinary skips I'm ok with, its the council run ones)

| there not supposed to let you, but it really depeds on the person there, they might not be too keen on you rummaging, but if you were to see something that was easily got at, then i expect they would let you. at my skip, the chaap says he would lose his job if he was caught, but he turns a blid eye and pretends he cant see if there is no other officials or skip people there. |

We get all our dead freezers for composting from the tips. They aren't supposed to let you (possibly a health and safety issue, letigious people etc??? iykwim) but it does seem to depend on the attendant. _________________ It is better to light a candle than to rail against the darkness

There is no way wood should ever be put into landfill and the councils should be only too pleased if people remove it from the skips. I certainly do when I can, with the attendant's 'permission' (turning a blind eye!) I also recently got some great sheets of plastic 'glass' from a defunct greenhouse - great on top of cold frames, and my latest treasure (Saturday) was a round plastic table (no legs) to use as a big bird table on a post next winter. I see such good things thrown into skips, and would like to see councils devising a way for people to leave out things which may be of some use and let other folk take them away. They would reduce their landfill taxes considerably! _________________ Local food - better by far! |

Its a crime indeed!
You will never guess what I pulled out today!!! A galvanised feeder - its HUGE! I mean you can fit an entire 25kg sack in this thing!!! And you can suspend it.
I mean who in their right mind would chuck that away?! |
