If you come across any useful 'how to' sites about anything to do with the sort of problems poultry owners come up against, please post them on here for general use.
It would be easier to trawl through if we could avoid chitchat as it tends to deviate from the topics, but if you have any relevant additions to any of the posts please do add them. _________________ It is better to light a candle than to rail against the darkness

Clipping the flight feathers to stop birds from flying over fences into places they shouldn't get to is a useful technique. If you keep bantams it will be of special interest as they fly really well.

My only reservation with wing clipping is that it does lessen their chances of escape from predators.
I have a Sumatran bantam who likes to fly up onto the roof trusses to sleep if she gets a chance. I thought I had lost her the first time she did it as I never thought to look all the way up there for her lol _________________ Sassinak

Similarly here Sass, my new chooks and their man ( from AndyB) won't go anywhere near the shed at night and sleep up in the tree's so I won't be cutting their flight feathers. _________________ xxx Mrs G xxx |

With winter just around the corner, now is the time for checking poultry houses. Although our feathered friends don't mind the elements to a certain extent, draughts in their houses can be a killer. They are capable of keeping themselves warm - if you have ever been close to their entrance when you open them up in the morning you will have felt the heat.
I have started giving mine Poultry Spice in their mash once a week - I am also giving them cod liver oil to help over the moult. _________________ POULTRY FOR LIFE

Good point about the free rangers and predators girls, but it wasn't meant as advice to all poultry keepers.
The site is useful and for anyone wanting to keep their birds in a fenced area and unsure how to wing clip there is a nice clear diagram to assist them.
This is a resource thread for people to dip into and the more that can be added to it the better please. Better still if you can find links with video or diagram instructions as the kind of people using this thread may never have done the thing they want advice on. _________________ It is better to light a candle than to rail against the darkness

That's a good idea - which is your preferred method Julie? _________________ Neeps Flickr Group - check out some of the fab photos from other Neepsters and share some of your own. |

Whisk the whole egg and freeze in reusable containers. I think it is a good idea to note how many eggs are in each container so you can thaw a suitable quantity for your needs. I don't add sugar or salt to mine so for all I know it might give a better result, probably worth trying. _________________ It is better to light a candle than to rail against the darkness

Last weekend I made numerous quiches and egg custards. I have never tried freezing eggs but I will give it a go. _________________ POULTRY FOR LIFE
