Don't know if you have heard that the Lemon Tree has gone into voluntary liquidation as of now. It is shut, all performances cancelled and the staff all out of a job.
Now this doesn't affect me directly anymore as I'm no longer in striking distance of the venue but I think it's a real loss to Aberdeen, the groups who used it and for the arts scene in general.

Only been there once - but that sounds really sad. I always admired the programme they had from afar... _________________ Ina |

yeah, I saw this on the web, ironically my copy of the lemon tree booklet appeared today. I'll really miss it. I saw some ace bands there and now there isn't a middle venue between moshulu, tunnels and the music hall.
we'll probably get even less bands now.
Perhaps this is why NMA moved and why the band I'm seeing tonight is at moshulu when last year it was at the lemon tree.
sad really.

What a shame - I've many fond memories of The Lemon Tree.
Is there any kind of petition to get it opened again? _________________ Neeps Flickr Group - check out some of the fab photos from other Neepsters and share some of your own. |

PPG here - what a shock - I thought it was partly subsidised by the Council. I remember when it was St Kays - an unemployed worker's centre, welfare rights service, practice rooms & gig venue.
Yeah, who are you going to see tonight, Pete |

My friends son has worked there for quite a few years now. Luckily he is away down under for a couple of months at the moment so is not directly involved.
It doesn't affect me directly, but it will be a sad loss to the area as I've seen many good bands advertised there _________________ Sassinak

I'm off to see Sons and daughters.
Check them out myspace
In fact, I'm leaving now 'cos I had to come home first to do the horses and then drive back in to aberdeen which is a grind.

It was partly subsidised by the council but was run by a trust . According to the P&J the council offered a loan to keep it going but the board voted to go for voluntary liquidation.
I remember it as St Ks as well. Jaws Cafe and the Friday night reggae disco.
