For along time I have been thinking of trying a wartime rationing regime as it has often been said that as a nation we were at our healthiest during that period.
Well over the last few weeks the old ticker started to play up a bit again, so I decided to bite the bullet and go for it.
I went on line, and started looking for information on allowances, and I found this article which I think some of you may find interesting.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health...mily-survive-wartime-rations.html
I have been on it for a couple of weeks now and I can say for me it is working, within a few days the ticker trouble subsided, I have more energy, I have also started to lose a little weight...always a good thing in my case.
Hope you find it as interesting as I did.

I'm quite surprised how much is on that list - is that per week or month? I know the quantities varied at different times during the war. It certainly was a healthy diet. I'm still surprised how much fat and sugar is there.

I'm fine thanks Lor

I was a little surprised to about the amount of fat too.
But now the government advise we should not eat more than 95g a day which is nearly double the wartime allowance.
Especially when we consider the fact that generally as a nation our lifestyles have become much more sedentary.

I think someone must have shares in the fat industry

Shetland women swear that one of the reasons they live so long is because they had real butter instead of marGarine buring the war.
We until recently (my grandfather threw it out when they downsized) used a wartime cookbook for making biscuits and treats.

Shame about the cookbook - I've been trying to get hold of a real/decent wartime recipe book.
