I changed my user password the other day and have completely forgotten it
As the admin account I can't do anything about it, can anyone help with advice on resetting it please?
I can still log on as another user or guest but can't access any of my files, what a pillock.
Thanks, Lisa. _________________ www.millofshannascroft.co.uk |

Oops, sorry. My pc.
I had created accounts for all of us with mine as administrator and passworded it but I can't remember what I put. I could have sworn it was bumface (I was thinking about OH at the time) but have tried that in all combinations and it wont work.
I changed a lot of passwords that day and wrote them all down except this one.

Yes to only admin account and XP I think. It came back from repair the other day hence new passwords etc. This will be the second time in a week I have lost all my files.

do you back them up anywhere? I've got an external hard drive and back up as often as I can (which isn't as often as I should!) _________________ Neeps Flickr Group - check out some of the fab photos from other Neepsters and share some of your own. |

Panic over on password, I used capitals, probably accidentally.
I tried to copy everything before I took it but it kept overheating hence the need for a new fan. I didn't realise he was going to reinstall everything else so didn't ask him to make a copy for me before he did it. My fault, I am trying not to think about what I have lost but must take time to back up in future.

Been ofline most of the weekend... unfortunately (despite not officially being on call), I've been on a good deal today... only just got round to looking on Neeps though.
Good to see you are sorted out now, but in future if you, or anyone else, have issues with lost passwords, etc, you can find programs online which will allow you to reset it. ERD (Emergancy Recovery Doctor IIRC) is one, which you burn to CD, then you boot up via CD and can reset the password that way. There is also HIRENS BOOT CD which has similar programs on the CD.
IIRC there is also a freebie Linux floppy disc image, which will allow you to do the same.
It's not all over if you forget the password |
