Had a fab visit from Maria today. Loads of wandering around looking at plants and lovely green blether. I was sorting out unwanted bits to bring on Saturday and gave her first pickings.
I know we have the emporium but how about this.
Neep has some spare time, spare plants/eggs/ household or garden stuff they want to get rid of. Put an invite out...... Neeps come over, coffee, bicky, feedback re,'have you ever thought of that?' re garden. Fresh ideas to problems/advice and if they want the plants, pictures, clothes then fab.
I know there's freecycle, I use it too but much more friendly and lovely than waiting for a stranger to turn up.
I'm sure this probably happens anyway but why not make it happen more or why not arrange to bring unwanted stuff to get togethers???? With the understanding that if noone wants something the owner takes it home again and disposes in another direction. I know we do jam and plants etc but we must all have stuff that someone else would love?
Decided to put on permaculture thread as Maria and I were chatting about it and it does increase Neeps yields. (And happiness )
Beth
P.S. You get friendship and a carboot fix at the same time!!! _________________ www.womblehouse.blogspot.com

I agree, they've always ben fine so far but have to really need to get rid of something. Try to do it ewhen OH here. Makes you feel a bit vulnerable when strangers stand in your garage etc.
Love trawling the boards though, very entertaining with a cuppa

You already know I think it's a marvellous idea.
Thanks for all the 'new to me' treats that I came home with yesterday. _________________ Better late than never! |

Sounds good to me - I was also thinking about this swaps thing after your comment about not having anything to swap and wondering whether we could have some neeps vouchers that we could use as swaps instead. I doubt that anyone here would abuse the swaps thing but I do know that some feel awkward taking something from the table if they haven't got anything to offer at the time. The vouchers could be swapped for something else (could be help in the garden/swap items/baking a cake etc) - hmmm this sounds like LETS doesn't it. _________________ Neeps Flickr Group - check out some of the fab photos from other Neepsters and share some of your own. |

Sounds like an excellent idea, especially the token thingy. I am growing stuff for the first time ever and looking for various things I don't even know the names for!
I don't have anything really to swap but I DO have loads of skills and things which I might be able to trade?
It sounds a bit like the LETTS scheme if anyone has heard of that?

If only all these lovely NEEPS weren't so far away from us southeners... All very nice, these ideas, but the driving involved really prevents it from happening. _________________ Ina |

We have mentoned the LETTS scheme many times in the last couple of years.
I think we need to find out more about it and see if would fit our needs without too much work being involved for anyone. We don't want a scheme that would involve huge amounts of administration for anyone of us to try and cope with. _________________ Sassinak

Would have thought that with the numbers of folk on here, there'd maybe be a "shipment route" available to cut down on the amount of driving (assuming the things to be moved are small).
I'd have no problems with storing stuff locally (for a short while) if it meant I could drop something off near work, or collect something, then drop it off later if I was passing anyway.
This forum has already saved me hassle/money by getting something from Alford to my work for the cost of a box of choccies hopefully it wasn't too far out of the way for those involved, but I'd be more than happy to do the same kind of thing to help someone out getting something from this area across to someone else to pass on, etc.
Already done this on a "larger" scale via other groups of people, getting stuff passed from here to London (or vice versa) with people travelling for work. |
